Technically another NSD but will put in the papers cuz I would have bought them in the supermarket if we'd gone in one :p

The pork joint is now all sliced up with a parcel in the fridge & two more in the freezer, so I won't know the verdict from the jury till tomorrow evening :D I did have a  about those Bernard Matthews frozen "joints" as an alternative to sandwich meats...any ideas on that one folks, cuz my lot like lamb & much as I luv'em, I'm not flush enough to go buy half a sheep to stick between two slices of bread :rotfl:

Actually, following on from the attitude of other family members towards our thriftiness my eldest was saying that, because we thought it was only two for dinner tonight when the youngest walked in, we would have champagne & caviar. Without missing a beat the
youngest declared 'Nah...Mum would sooner have tea & toast & save up for thicker curtains to keep the house warm".......dunttit make you proud *sniff sniff*:o :rotfl:

    Hi everyone,

Hope I'm okay to join this month:D Haven't done this challenge for some time:o but need to get back on track. My month runs from 29th Aug to 25th Sept so will budget at 250.00 for the four of us. This does include the milkman of £19.60 and all food & stuff but not wine:cool: I avoid supermarkets like the plague so buy my goods locally plus grow my own.

    Thanks

  • Ever so pleased with OH who was hankering after a takeaway.

Kids and I were fed so I made a pepperoni pizza on 1/2 lunchtimes baguette slathered with pesto and ketchup topped with past it red pepper, garlic and 6 slices of salami from freezer, ball of mozzerella.

Costed it out at less than 85c.

He's almost reformed but certain areas he find's difficult - buying the kids sweets,crisps,treats........

Oh well one small step at a time.

Have given my neighbour my newly flowering tomato plant..... after months of nurturing I won't see the benefit but I've got plenty of experience in the gardening front.

    Hi all :hello:

Just letting you know about a tip I read on one of the other MSE forums - dont know who it was but all credit to them
Basically if you do your weekly shop every 8 days instead of the same day each week you technically get a "free week" every 6 weeks.
So altho Sept is a 5wk month I'm gonna try the above which will only be 4 lots of shopping (does this make sense??

    Hi Stacie,

the best way to save money is to plan your menus and buy things when they are on offer. If you have space to store it, things like pasta, tins, toilet rolls etc will last forever! Asda usually has some really good offers on sweets /chocolate and crisps, eg 3 multipacks of 12 bags of quavers wotsits etc for £3.

As other people have said, cooking from scratch and making double (or triple) and freezing the rest will bring your food bills down loads. You then have lots of home made 'ready meals' in the freezer for when you get home and you're k****kered!

If you're not a great cook, there's loads of easy things you can start with - tell us what you like and we'll help you out!

Also, don't feel too overwhelmed with all the advice, just start small and start slowly and it'll be fine!
