Seems like there may be a speed problem with Blank DVDs.
I have some 1-4x RW Philips Discs and there is a warning to upgrade firmware on 2.4 speed DVD+RW/+R, maybe the Cyberhome has of these older drives to keep the manufacturing price down as it only needs to write at 1x ?
Philips say:-
" Drives that do not support 4x recording ( a recent RW standard) may result in writing errors, failure in retrieval of data, or damage to the data recorded on this media. To use this media,1-4x you will need the newest firmware for your drive. Contact the manufacturer of your device or check the following website http://www.DVDRWservices.com "
Wrightnick has done that and says its now OK but seems you will loose the DivX capability, but there is a patch I believe.
Would be interested to see the Asda list.

does the lite-on record from your integrated digital? i hesitated from buying the Cyberhome after reading all of the revies about compatibility. i've got an Sony integrated digital TV and really want to record from it without buying another freeview box.

Hi
I am taking this DVD back because it is so temperamental with recording and
because Argos are selling the Liteon 5006 for £30 cheaper at £99 and its way better
with Videoplus, allwrite and overall seems far better built0 -
I have ordered
Item: Bulkpaq 8x DVD+R x 50
Qty: 1
Cost: 6.51
&
Item: Ebuyer Extra Value IEEE firewire cables 4pin/4pin 3m black
Qty: 1
Cost: 1.21
Comes to about £13 including saver carriage and VAT.
The disks were well reviewed but I should add a caveat that I have not tested these.
Hope this helps. See my original message for an addendum for region free use.Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day.

Yes I can confirm that the LiteOn 5006 will record from digital/integrated TV. I have a Sony KD-32NX100U & have the LiteOn's Scart Out connected to TV's VCR Scart, that's the top scart on my TV and LiteOn's Scart In to TV's Bottom scart which in the Sony Manual indicates a Play station. The TV has 3 scarts, middle scart is connected to Sony DAV S800 dvd player with built in amplifier and surround sound. When recording from the TV's integrated digital signal I find the easiest way to access it is to press LiteOn's Easy Guider menu from the remote, then scroll down to scart, its very simple.
Hope this info helps

OK everyone !
Looks like we can add JVC DVD+RW to list 1-4 speed in fullsize DVD case purple and gold cover disks inside are gold cover !
All of mine fail to record and process at end of recording. Best not buy any of these.
Bought some TDK DVD+RW pack of 5 in CD size case from TESCO. Am at present trying out and seems to be OK !
Could difference be these disks are more silver in coating, or is it not as simple as that ?

I know people have said you can't but I am recording from my Pace settop Freeview box via the scart. See earlier post for connection map
I have transfered a number of VHS to DVD successfully.
However I recorded Doc Martin for my wife who was out last night and during playback, the audio kept going out of sync.
I had recorded this with the Region at 2 and played it back at 0 and wondered if this caused the hitch. Will fiddle and update.
Would be interested to know if anyone else has had audio sync probs.
I found downloads for the player here:

I think the MU model is the US version and the ZU is the European. (this is infact a load of old rubbish so don't foxtrot uniform your machine) ME is the European, where as MU and ZU are US! How clever is that?
Only dabble with the Bios updates if you have a good clue what you are doing, otherwise you may end up with a very expensive clock!
OH yeah! I also recorded to DVD-R (Datawrite 4x yellowtops and also Riovision 8x DVD-R Pritable (CMC Dye) both from ebuyer)
Will cancel the order for my DVD+R as I have about 50 DVD-R kicking about the house at the mo!!Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day.

The MU and ZU are both US, and are quite different from each other. U=US
The European version is ME. E = Europe, Cyberhome is based in Germany http://www.cyberhome.de/en/modules.php?op=modload&name=PagEd&file=index&topic_id=0&page_id=9
The German description appears to give region unlocking instructions whereas the English page gives a review.

What media did you record Doc Martin on?
Just worked that out having read back through 10 pages of posts. Will edit that out of my last post.
found the hack here:
http://www.videohelp.com/dvdhacks.php?select=CyberHome+CH-DVR+1600
Also a code to return the machine to Virgin mode, but haven't tried it yet as don't need to.
Recorded Doc Martin onto the MR DVD DVD+R 8x which I picked up at Asda in a fit of impatience. 70% failure rate with them. All my DVD-R have formatted first time. the Datawrite x4 worked best, but they do on my PC so no surprise. Just a shame ebuyer don't currently stock them.Give a man a fish and he'll eat for a day.
