I phoned recently to ask the costs of getting my BT line reconnected and when they said it was £125 I told them I wasn't interested. When I phoned for this deal today they didn't exactly go in for the hard sell, almost trying to put me off! However, I have ordered my new line.
I just wondered if anyone knows the difference between paying monthly by direct debit and paying every 3 months, other than the obvious one! Are you paying in advance on the three monthly payment more than the monthly one?
When I phoned Virgin to get my current line disconnected I told them I wasn't moving to another provider but wanted to get rid of the landline alogether. I had made my mind up that I wanted to move and didn't want them to waste their time trying to persuade me to stay. They did say that if I stayed they would see if they could give me a better deal. It will be interesting to hear what they say when they find out that I want to move my tv, broadband and mobile also!3 stone down, 3 more to go0 -
i'm currently without a landline (it was disconnected about a month ago), and am using 3 mobile broadband. however, i would like to return to a 'proper' broadband service so i can get bigger download limits and faster connection. also want a wireless router so i can share the connection, as i'm thinking of having a lodger.
what do you guys reckon is the cheapest option? get the bt 29.99 deal and then broadband on top, say o2 or something? or forget about adsl and go with virgin broadband? my past experience with cable broadband though (ntl) was a very poor one, has cable improved?0 -
want2bmortgage3- Cable has improved as Ive been with virgin media for around a year and never really had any problems-the connection speed was always good.(Not sure if they still offer quidco cashback though)
I am going to move house and cant reconnect the cable broadband in my area, I did check the new flats bt line and it still seems connected- I may take up the post offices offer if its only two pounds...0 -
I moved into my house a few months ago and had avoided reconnecting due to the cost. There is a socket in the lounge. I was a previous BT customer before I changed to cable at my previous address. I've managed with my mobile up to now tho live in a village with poor mob reception. Whats the best option for me please? ie Will I get the BT deal? or can I do it cheaper elsewhere?
Many thanks.0 -

Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0

Does anyone know if this offer covers the actual physical installation of a cable or is it just the reconnection of a service on an existing line??0

Having phoned BT yesterday afternoon and being told the offer it was for returning cable customers only, I tried again last night and they agreed to connect me for £29.99 no problems, no mention of returning cable customers. I think it just depends who you get and how helpful they are feeling!0

I have just spoken to BT who said I wasnt eligible for this offer because I have not returned from cable (ours is a brand new line as its a new build property).
I don't see that anywhere in the t&cs though? !!
They also said the serviceview website wasn't an "official" BT webpage either.
I'm really annoyed as this is the 2nd time i've had to pay £124.99 in 6 months as we rented a house before this and the landlord wouldn't pay it for us.
This is rubbish - I just moved in to a new build and had to have a new line installed but I still qualified for the discount - Thank goodness seeing as I soon transferred my account to Tiscali (who told me the cancellation fee from BT would be £70) and had to pay a cancellation fee of £205  !! I was most upset at this, but would have been even more so if i'd had to have paid the £125 as well!!0 -

It includes the actual installation of the line. I just moved into a new build, and my landlord being rubbish had put in telephone points, yet the cables led no where!! The poor BT man had to drill a hole out of our flat and physically connect the cable to the telephone pole!!:rotfl:0 -
Once again MSE provides the lifeline we needed!
We are just about to ditch Virgin and have spoken to BT about reconnecting (we have the BT white boxes on the wall but have been disconnected from BT for about 8 years). We have also been quoted the £125 reconnection fee and when my OH asked if there were any deals going they said no. Found this thread courtesy of Martin's weekly email and will defo go back to them and ask for the 18 month deal. Why are they keeping it so quiet? You'd think that with all the competition they'd be shouting about it from the rooftops??!!
Thanks MSE - what would we do without you?? (my lunch breaks would be much duller for sure!!!:rotfl: )0
