ok update - i just called BT and they told me its free to reconnect the line!!!!

Result! Its a 12 month contract and 11.75 a month or 10.50 if i set up paperless billing. once activated (a few days time) I can just get my broadband through whoever I like.

I would like talktalk but I dont think that will be possible due to the 12 month bt contract? does any one know for sure? other than that i guess plus net or o2 would be the best one...

If you moved to TalkTalk (not a wise move at all) you'd have to pay BT £70 cancellation fee for terminating the line rental contract early.

TalkTalk could do what BT do and pay Open Reach to install lines however they choose not to as they'd rather just pay the £2.35 to take over a current line.
It's PAC not PAC Code, it's MAC not MAC Code, it's PIN not PIN Number, it's ATM not ATM Machine, it's LCD not LCD Display, it's DVD not DVD disc... It's no one not noone, It's a lot not alot, It's got not gotten... Panini is the plural of panino - there is no S!!
(OK my English isn't great, the sciences, maths & IT are my strong points!)
  • thanks for the info, according to the b/b/ article plus net would be cheapest then, or possibly o2.. seeing as i'm interested in the simplicity deal once my 3 contract is up, couple of months left
  • Does anyone know if this offer is still available as I can't see any info on the website. When I call tomorrow I need to be armed with all the T's andC's!!

    Thanks

  • im sure it was til end of september so you should be ok... i believe its an 18 month contract though. if you have the line physically there and its had a number before i think you have a chance of free re activation like me.

If you read the original post in this thread your find the T&C. The offer ends 30th September 2008 ,and is not on their website.
  • Thanks. Found those terms and conditions just after I'd posted.

Just to confirm I had no problem with this offer and signed up for it today. they seem to have a different set of people who deal with this offer. I had to call twice in the end and, as soon as I mentioned it, I was told to hold on while I was transferred as they couldn't deal with that particular offer.

Just wanted to say a big thank you for saving me £90

  • well I just phoned BT up and asked how much reconnection was and they told me £ 125.

I asked them about the special offer, she put me on hold, then told me it is still £ 125 ?????

Try again - the £29.99 offer is until 30-9-08.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Well I phoned BT again after also realising that the BT woman I spoke to yesterday didn't even ask for my address, therefore, she couldn't have done a check to see if the property already had a BT line or not...............it still didn't stop her from telling me it would cost me £ 125 (the cow ! )

The guy I spoke to today at BT checked the line at the property and said it is a stopped BT line which means there is no reconnection charge.

Happy ending but it goes to show how crap call centres are eh ?
