Tortilla Wraps? / recipes

Just seen this thread and wanted to add, if you like beans try making refried beans (I made them in the slow cooker using this recipe and they are seriously good) and roll up with grated cheese in the wraps. I put mine in the freezer, so my son can take them when he wants as they defrost very quickly in the microwave. Also, if I want a quick meal I can take 8 of them from the freezer, put in a dish and cover with enchillada sauce and grated cheese, then bake.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0

You could make 'Flamkuchen' - spread a soft cheese (something like quark or philadelphia)over the tortilla and put on slivers of onion and some chopped up bacon/ham pieces whatever quantity you prefer. Top with a few slices of hard cheese, anything works, season with salt and pepper and bung into a good hot oven 200deg C on a baking tray for about 10 minutes. Its yummy.0

Hi,
I am trying to cut down Ohs intake of fat and salt. Not easy!
I have bought some wraps for his packed lunches as I see they have about half as much salt as one slice of bread.
I know this may sound daft, but I'm not really sure how to make them up! At what point do you fold it, how? and do you put the filling all over or down the middle only?
Thanks, and any suggestions for suitable low salt fillings would be very welcome too.Norn Iron Club member 4730 -
I made some wraps at the weekend. My kids love refried beans, basically they are beans that are mashed, not fried though and taste lovely home made. I use this recipe. You can get a 500g bag of pinto beans in Tesco for 98p and this makes enough for 16 wraps (I freeze them when made up)
I roll them up like a burrito, take a look at this video on how to roll them. Use an ice cream scoop to dump the beans on the tortilla then spread out with a knife.
Alternatively you can put the filling in the middle, roll up and fold up the end so the filling doesnt fall out.“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
That sounds tasty! Thanks, I dont have a crockpot or slow cooker but I do have a pressure cooker.Maybe just simmering them in a big pot would be best?Norn Iron Club member 4730

Yes, you can simmer in a saucepan or use pressure cooker, I dont have one of those though. They are so tasty, we put some grated cheese in and you could add salsa if you want.
Basically anything you put in a sandwich you can put in a wrap. x“A budget is telling your money where to go instead of wondering where it went.” - Dave Ramsey0 -
OH has them for lunch sometimes, he doesn't do anything near as exotic as refried beans!
He has salad with either crumbled cheese, chopped hard boiled egg, tuna, roast beef, breaded chicken etc.
He puts a little mayo first, then the salad, then the other topping, all in the middle third leaving about 2 inches at either end, folds in the ends, wraps the sides over, cuts in half then wraps in foil to keep it all together.
I do mine the same but I prefer salad dressing to mayo.

I smear the inside with mayo or something like that before adding the filling, the mayo I find helps the wrap stick once rolled.0

Mashed ripe avacado spread on before salad and other fillings is divine! And it's pretty good for you as the fat is the right sort of fat, if that makes any sense.Solar Suntellite 250 x16 4kW Afore 3600TL dual 2KW E 2KW W no shade, DN15 March 14
