Tortilla Wraps? / recipes

I seem to recall either seeing or reading about some sort of snack/meal that can be made by (dry?) frying tortilla wraps with some sort of filling to make like a sandwich rather than a wrap, and wondered if anyone knew what they are called please, or even have a recipe? :)

  • Hi curry queen, I think they are quesadillas (sp). I sometimes make my own *interpretation of these by layeriing the tortillas, with salsa and grated cheese and popping in the oven or in a pan, then cooking until warm and chesses has melted, then cutting in to wedges. You can fill with what you have handy, but the medted cheese is the nice bit to have.
  • Oooooh yes that does sound exactly like what I'm looking for, thank you! :T :D

I knew it had melted cheese in but wasn't sure about anything else, although I suppose you could put anything in really ... but I seem to have forgotten how to cook at the moment :o

I found some tortillas in the freezer so I might just be able to manage something like this for dinner tonight ;)

The recipe i have seen for these is from Jamie Oliver, and involves placing a filling of cheddar, chopped tomatos, spring onions and chopped chilli between two tortillas, then dry frying on both sides. It is served with guacamole, and is yummy!

  • Yes they are Quesadillas. You can get a machine to toast them from argos but its just a round glorified sandwich toaster. I always do mine in the oven or in a big frying pan.

MMMMM my mouth is watering at the thought... damn you CQ, its a long time till my lunch break
  • Sorry ancasta ;):D

Right, well I have cheese, a red onion, a chilli and there's some sliced chorizo left over from a pizza in the freezer too, so I think that's dinner sorted :T

Thanks everyone, you've been a great help as usual :A

I have a quesalada (sp) maker but don't use it much - DD's like using it.

We normally put a tomato paste, cheese, pre fried onions and peppers and some salami in -- yummmms

Last night I did the girls the same sort of thing but used a tortilla like a pizza base and just stuck under the grill....left them to cool for a bit and rolled them up to make them easier to eat - they both had 2 and asked for more!

I can vouch for the Jamie Oliver recipe = I make them regularly for get togethers and they always go down a treat.

Put them in a large dry frying pan to cook for a minute or 3 and turn once to brown both sides. They're done when the cheese melts!!!

I put sliced mushrooms, grated cheese and sweetcorn in mine and then pop in the oven for about 10 mins! They are delish served with guacamole, creme fraiche and salsa.
