So I ask again, why can't anyone join? If it is indeed done at above cost, the leasing company makes their money they'd make anyway, some administrator takes some kind of cut, everyone's happy. Why deny the able-bodied the easy option?#145 Save £12k in 2016 Challenge: £12,062.62/£12,000.00 Beginning Balance: £5,027.78 CHALLENGE MET

Why can't I as a 26 year old go on a Saga holiday?
Why as a white man am I never going to be nominated for a MOBO award?
Why do pensioners get a 10% discount at my local garden centre on a Tuesday?
Why do children travel half price on the train when they take up a whole seat?
Why do supermarket employees get a discount at the supermarket?

As a more considered response:
The scheme is open to anyone in receipt of the High Rate Mobility Component of the Disability Living Allowance. It is a way for them to have reliable transport so they can play an active role in society, but is by no means the cheapest way. Nor is it necessarily any cheaper than other commercial products on the market, it is just that many disabled people would have difficulty accessing these commercial products due to their disability often having an impact on their capacity to earn a decent wage.
I am sure if a non disabled person were to join the scheme they wouldn't find it any cheaper than many commercial options already available to them. Once they have paid the VAT on the new car, the RFL for three years, the £7500 over three years and any advance payment for all but the most basic cars I am sure they would look elsewhere for a better deal.
Having said all that I do agree that due to the inclusive insurance the Motability deal can work out as a very good deal for young inexperienced drivers who would otherwise have to pay a large premium, but then of course if you're not disabled there are many other options open to you other than driving.I've given up trying to get my signature to work with the new rules, if nobody knows what the rules are what hope do we have?0 -

The car body repairs are done through insurance not paid by taxpayers at all. Get your facts right before quoting on this forum.

The insurance is done by RSA which is all funded via MFL, which is, in turn funded by tax payers.......................................

and who pays for the insurance ?0 -
You are correct that the benefit used to pay for Motability would come from the taxpayer, but I'm not entirely sure why everyone seems to be making a big point of this.
I am sure that if you were to break the figures down collectively disabled people contribute/have contributed more in tax than they have received back from the government in benefits many times over.
Are you suggesting that disabled people shouldn't be receiving any money from the government to help them live with their disability? Maybe you think the government has better things to spend taxpayers money on than supporting the vulnerable in this country? Maybe we should stop paying disability benefits and build a new art gallery, save a few furry animals and boost a few of those poor civil servants' pensions?
I think it is sad that that so many people obviously begrudge disabled people an existence in this world, maybe all disabled people should just be shot? Of course if you think it is the easy life then why don't you cut a leg off and join all the disabled people driving round in their brand new motors coining it in from the poor old taxpayer?I've given up trying to get my signature to work with the new rules, if nobody knows what the rules are what hope do we have?0 -

id suggest that measures should be place to penalise those that are put in a brand new car and abuse it knowing however badly they damage it they can save up all the dents and fag burns and pay their £75 to have it made as new
or bring back them pale blue invalid cars for those that cant/wont look after them0 -

Boy have got a chip on your shoulder, maybe we should put disabled people down and have an end to it, wouldnt cost you anything then:money:
For what its worth when I was doing the auction rounds I would specifically seek out ex mobility sales, the cars were generally better than ex rep cars, (why would they treat them any better), interiors were normally excellant, mileages always fine.Tthe only usual damage being scaped bumpers due to driving difficulties I would expect, and the odd bit of trim damage do to walking sticks etc.
Of course there is always the exception to the rule, there was some young prat on here a while ago bragging how he thrashed his mobility car "cos it's not mine".
If you are swayed be his type, well, no point arguing with you
