can't understand those 3-year old (motability) cars

Another point that has to be taken into account is that Motability cars tend to attract jealous vandalism. I am starting the third year of use of an automatic Nissan Micra Initia (I cannot use a clutch pedal) and have had the following problems in the past two years:
Long scratch on bonnet caused by keying.
Sprayed with something like silly string that has turned solid on the bodywork.
Dented by another car in a car park (and no note or indication of liability left).
Rear ended by young joker in a convertible BMW talking to his companion, rather than watching the road.
As soon as I got the car back from the repair shop it was then smacked in exactly the same place by a reversing bus, which had gone down the wrong road! It was parked at the roadside.
Alright, the rear endings were genuine accidents, in that no malice was intended, but the top three are pure vandalism.
As for the car being free, that's complete nonsense. It isn't free - all or part of it is paid for out of my sorely tight benefits. But without it I would be completely housebound and not even able to go shopping. Just because I'm partially incapacitated doesn't mean I should be excluded from society, or locked away in the 4 walls of my flat.
I'd willing take a job if one was offered that would enable me to work at my own pace at home for a fixed salary. Such jobs do exist, but they require a time and attention commitment I cannot offer.0 -

oh dear you have had bad luck, but blaming those things on people being jealous?
Ive had worse happen to my car what can i blame that on?0 -
Well, who do you think caused those problems? Only you can answer that. I know the answer to my particular incidents. Keying and spraying aren't something that is done by accident.hewhoisnotintheknow wrote: »oh dear you have had bad luck, but blaming those things on people being jealous?

i assume random people walking past, would they vandlise your micra if you owned it? How do they know its a motability car?0 -

I don't think that's due to it being a motability vehicle, unless it's someone who knows you personally and is jealous of the fact you have a newish car. There are mindless individuals about who enjoy causing random and pointless damage, but there are nicer cars to be jealous of than a Nissan Micra

i worked at vauxhall , we did get alot of these cars in for repairs for vandal damage , guessing some of them were in poorer areas and the brand new car gave people the hump...one guy came back many times for a full respray (cost him £75) tax payers pay the rest
but id also say a great deal of these were very badly treated , filthy dirty and generaly well knocked about , certainly not the way id treat a brand new car0 -

How do taxpayers pay for the rest of the repair then?

You would think so. However, I believe two of my neighbours are jealous of my 14 year old Skoda for some reason
(yes I'm as confused as anyone else would be, I thought the badge and age would be an effective vandalism and theft deterrent). They enjoy throwing eggs and coins at it, dumping rubbish on it, writing offensive language (apparently aimed at me) in frost/snow with their finger, kicking it and putting dents and scratches in it. Only reason I can think is they don't have a car themselves, so compared to no car it's something to be jealous of.
And this is neighbours, not random people. Suppose it comes with living in a crap area. I'm particularly confused why they'd target my car at all as there's a nice new Focus parked a few metres from mine (suppose they may have targeted that too and I've not noticed) and other much nicer cars in the area. Wonder what my neighbours would do if I had a Bugatti Veyron parked up
I daren't rent a car/van etc because of the neighbours as it could end up costing me a lot. 0 -

As said above, if its costing the user nothing, then most will use and abuse them, same as many company cars.
There will be exceptions as in Maytaurus' post above, but they are in a tiny minority.
Look maybe at Toyota verso or Kia carens type vehicles instead, much more likely to last anyway.
I wouldn't have an ex motability unless giveaway price.
What a load of bollox? Most ex mobility cars are first class and very low mileage. Yes there's an exception but it is just that:TI like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.
Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)
Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed0
