can't understand those 3-year old (motability) cars

  • I used sell motability car's and i must say that all the customers i dealt with had a genuine disability. All the cars that were returned were in excellent condition compared to the norm.

However having attended the training courses and some auctions it is clear that some people abuse the scheme. Motability used to be quite lax about this but it started to cost them big time so they are now toughening up on it.

But to be honest that is neither here nor there. In society there will always be a small minority that abuse any perceived benefit. If we allow the minority to dictate the merit or success of schemes like motability who has won???

Imo the people on here who are too narrow minded to see this are no better than the fraudsters/abusers.

The scheme is not a charity. It is essentially a contract hire company like any other. The users have to sacrifice their allowance in return for the car. If it is a more expensive car they have to make up the difference in the form of a initial payment.

My cousin has hadcerebral palsy since birth. As such he has been entitled to a car on the scheme for the last 28 years. For the first 18 his parents could use the benefit/car as a nominated carer. Then for the last 10 he's been able to use it as he sees fit. Because he's a bit of a petrol head he's always put it towards a car.

If i were ask him or his parents would you give up the £160pm (or whatever it is) disability allowance in return for being 'able bodied' i wonder what the answer would be???????
For those idiots that are probably murmuring to themselves well it must be nice to of had a new car for the last 28ys. I'll tell you i can guarantee he'd pay £1600 a month just to be able to f!!!ing walk everywhere

Oh i forgot to add for those of you that are interested he's worked full time since he left school and paid his taxes like everyone else.

I am glad someone has come onto this thread with some common sense, not just single minded with a bee in their bonnet.

Well said. Just because some people pay taxes they think they have a right to come onto a forum & nitpick at the benefit system. If genuine disabled people are entitled to benefit they should claim it & use the money as they wish & if it means getting a car to get around then so be it.

As you say most disabled people would give all the benefit back to be able bodied again.

I won't be wasting my time with any answers, as you seem to be splitting hairs regarding the insurance side of things.

    Why not?

A forum is a discussion forum for anything including where taxes and benefits are spent and how they are spent.

...is what moneysaver said about the insurance.

I added that the insurance is done via RSA, which is funded via MFL, which is in turn funded by tax payers.
