I'm hoping I'll be lucky as I'm already claiming all the benefits. Once I find a place I'll go and have a word with my bank about upping my overdraft to what they set it too while I wait for the benefits to be sorted if there is a problem. IF push comes to real shove then I'll just have to use the credit card for absolute necessaries...
I think the reason they want a guarantor or a huge deposit is that the rules on housing benefits have changed (changed April 2008) - its now paid to the tenant who is then responsible for paying the landlord. I've always done this anyway when on benefits as its never been enough to pay the full rent! One agent even said to me "I'm not saying you'd do this as I'm sure you're very trust worthy looking at you, but if you had a choice between putting shoes on your daughters feet and paying the rent, you'd put the shoes on her feet". Yes I would put shoes on her feet, but I'd cut something like the food shopping or something down to allow for it  I hate the way people are tarred with the same brush :mad:
:mad:That's an appalling thing to say.:mad:
I used to get a rent cheque every fortnight and it was up to me to pay the LA. DD every month. I didn't want it paid direct to the LA as I didn't want them to know how much benefit I had to claim. I think there was an option on the HB form plus it asked if HB could contact the LA directly to which I ticked NO.
I would keep looking if I were you. There has to be a private landlord somewhere that would be willing to let you rent. Could you not get a budgeting loan to help with the deposit?0 -

And god only knows why the government decided not to pay it direct - it would make things so much easier if people knew it was a guaranteed payment - I know one of the reasons was because when people came off, there was a delay in stopping payments, but surely an easier way would have been to set up an automatic system instead... still, it must be so much easier for them now... now they keep people waiting for their payments for months and still have the problem of not stopping them in time, so what have they achieved...
I really must put my soapbox away, I seem to be using it so much...:o
I agree with the LL getting paid directly. But then HB mess up so often.
When I first claimed, I took everything they asked for in and waited whilst it was all photocopied and handed back to me. I even double checked and asked to see the copies to make sure it was all done. Then 4 weeks later I had a letter saying they couldn't proceed with the claim as they didn't have all the information they had asked for.
Add to this IS decided not to pay anything for 4 weeks. Because they hadn't recieved something I again had taken in in person. It caused alot of added stress that I could of done without.0 -
I've done my own list today as I seem to be out of synch with the official one....oops. I changed the beds at the weekend, so I'm not doing them again!
Today I have :- Dysoned the hard floors (bathroom, kitchen, lounge and both *landings* - they're not, as I live in a flat, but YKWIM)
- Extra specially hard dysoning of the kitchen - moving everything etc. 'cause I dropped a jar last night and if I don't get it all I'll be finding little shards of glass for weeks to come (scary amounts of fluff under the tumble drier, but gone now)
- Damp dusted the lounge
- S+S kitchen
- Shiny sink-ed
Edited to add : Oh gawd....just checked tomorrow's list - the Oven of Doooooooooooom.....! It really needs doing. I MUST clean the oven tomorrow evening. I MUST, MUST, MUST clean the oven tomorrow evening. Right, that's me told..0 -
Is anyone else having problems logging into yahoo? I can't get on mine no matter how many combinations of yahoo ID or resetting password I do!!!
Thought it was just my very old laptop throwing a wobbly! I managed to get online by using a link in an email to a web page and then the system let me browse - hth!
Fraid I've been a poor flylady today - as I woke I pulled a muscle in my neck - yes I know that sounds like a cop out! but haven't been able to do much all day as I can't move to the right!! MAnaged to sort the knicker drawer and throw out the saggy greys and holey tights in prep for winter! And then the other drawers in the chest of drawers too got a bit of a sorting with a good bin bag load thrown and some goodies sorted for the next car boot.
Found a bargain pasting table for the car boot too in a closing down sale so not too bad a day!
Hugs to all who need them! Here's to a better Wednesday!

Well plan is HHI whilst starting to watch "The Holiday". Mum phoned in tears just needing to hear someones voice. Ouch! that was a killer. She sounded brighter at the end of the call.
Girls loved holiday club so I feel a much nicer Mummy for sending them. I just hope once I start work we can get a routine going.
Not checked what joys Pigpen has in store for us tomorrow but I need to:-
Do pack ups
Drop girls at holiday club
Drive to Ely - Hand forms in for Mum
Pay cheque into BS
Check when girls ballet restarts
Look for work clothes & swimsuit
Shopping (veggies for stir-fry)
Collect DD2 n go to see childminder
DD2 to Drs for jabs
HHI
Thats all my head can cope with at the moment. Really must do some ironing.0 -

This is what I'm expecting to happen. In theory its a "change of address" but since it would be to a new council I want to know if I have to go through the whole claiming process with them. The benefits system took 4 weeks to kick in for me, but the CSA took until Ex's pay cheque at the end of June to kick in  Everything is 4 weeks in arrears, but in theory I should get the deposit back on this place so that will be £300 in my pocket to go towards anything I need to buy (like new uniform for DD, food etc).
Which reminds me. I posted this over on one of the other boards but no-one has replied so maybe you lot can help me out :I'm looking at relocating to Wigan from Liverpool for personal reasons I'm not going to go into here. I have a 7-year-old daughter and am currently on Income Support, housing/council tax benefits etc. This is my first time moving on my own & with a school aged child. Have I covered all the bases in the following list or is there anything else I need to do?- Rental properties that I can afford based on current benefits.LHA website estimates of Housing benefit
- Looked at private landlords/letting agents and its either guarantors or huge deposits of £1000
- Have application form for council housing already filled in, just need to get the 2 references I need for it.
- School place for my daughter (doing my best to get her into a good school based on DofES information)
- If local school is CofE then I need to apply direct to the school
- If local school is a community one then I apply for a transfer of school through the council (already have a print out of the form)
- Transferring Housing/council tax benefit claims from Liverpool to Wigan council
- Housing benefit would switch to the new LHA scheme (already looked at the allowance so I have an idea of what I could, in theory afford)
- Council Tax - from what I can gather I still get this 100% as I'm on Income Support
- Transferral of Income Support through job centre (from what I can gather that should be a pretty straight forward thing...in theory)
- I am starting a training course in September with a company based in Liverpool through the New Deal for Lone Parents, this company also has offices in Wigan and according to the Job centre in Wigan I should be able to transfer this course over as well - this is only based on the assumption I can find somewhere to live before March when my course ends
- When I get a job or if I start training outside of school hours I need childcare
- I have a list of childminders, out of hours childcare etc all in Wigan with details of ages covered, costs etc.
- Then all the usual things I would move if I was moving within Liverpool
- Utilities (including ending broadband, BT package as I can't just transfer them this time) Mobile company
- Child Benefit / Tax Credits / CSA
- Bank / building society / Credit Cards / NHS Medical Cards
- Store Cards
- Doctor / Dentist
- DVLA
- Online things like ebay/amazon/pigsback
- Costs involved
- Reference costs (about £50 I think?)
- Transport costs there and back for signing contracts/viewings etc
- Moving of possessions
- Putting money on meters if they're prepayment
- Redirecting post - from £7.35 to £37.40 per surname (so 2 lots for me  )
- Deposit
- Cost of New Uniform for DD when she moves school
- "Repair" this house back to good condition to ensure deposit back
- Touch up paintwork
- Stick down any wallpaper that's come up (damp problems)
- Deep clean
- Remove marks on walls
- Repairs
Right, off to make a cuppa and put Holby on (recording it) then to bed with me by 10pm, via the bath if the towels ever dry!!! I messed up and left washing the towels until too late in the day to put out so I've slung them in the drier as my maidens are full of bags and cleaning cloths (I washed the towels before them but forgot to put them out and the bags can't go in the TD

nicki - when you deep clean the house, really deep clean it. If it was an furnished or part furnished when you moved in go through the inventory with a fine tooth comb. Replace anything broken, as cheaply as possible of course. I washed down everything, replaced a saucepan set and a few mugs etc.
This should safe guard your return of deposit. I got all mine back which was £575. And very needed.0
