Moving costs you should be able to claim back. Why do you need to pay for references?

nicki - when you deep clean the house, really deep clean it. If it was an furnished or part furnished when you moved in go through the inventory with a fine tooth comb. Replace anything broken, as cheaply as possible of course. I washed down everything, replaced a saucepan set and a few mugs etc.

This should safe guard your return of deposit. I got all mine back which was £575. And very needed.

Considering the state the place was in when we moved if I just packed up our stuff and moved out now I could probably still get the deposit back without cleaning! It was unfurnished except for an oil heater and the decor left alot to be desired - every room has been redecorated out of my own (well ex's) pocket, we even put new flooring in the bathroom & kitchen.

The references would have to be paid for if I went through a letting agent - one company said and I quote "Reference Fee of £50.00 per person - cheques payable to...."

ETA : I'm hoping moving costs will be a case of a crate of beer, some food and maybe a tank of petrol since Wigan is a 40minute drive away!

I thought about not doing anything today, as it doesn't seem long since I last did the bedroom - but then realised that as I'd been sleeping rather a lot recently my sheets are probably scuzzy and horrible and could do with a change

Monday Melee - Living Room, Hall and Stairs
    Level 1
[STRIKE]Vacuum through the living room, hall and stairs
    [/STRIKE]
    Level 2
    [STRIKE]Dusting, even if around everything
Remove clutter making sure stairs especially are safe
Clean windows and all glass.. including the tv screen [/STRIKE]
It's all still clean from last time!! (And no TV to do...)
[STRIKE]Wash any soft furnishings that need it [/STRIKE]They don't need it (I did check :D )
    Level 3
[STRIKE]Open a drawer.. sort the junk within! [/STRIKE]No drawers, so cleaned out a bookcase - lots of spiders and dead woodlice lurking behind the books :o
[STRIKE]15 minutes sort of the junk on the landing! [/STRIKE]None there!!!
[STRIKE]Vacuum under furniture you can manage to move without hurting yourself[/STRIKE]
Extra Mission: Pick one or more of the following tasks –
    1. [STRIKE]
    2. Water and wipe any plants
    3. Wipe down any paintwork that needs it.
    4. Binbag dance.. Get a binbag.. fill it and bin it!!!
    5. Clear out the cupboard under the stairs[/STRIKE] Don't have one!
Tuesday Chuck!- Master Bedroom & Landing

    . Will wash tomorrow
[STRIKE]Fling open the window and let in the rain sunnyness

    Level 2
[STRIKE]Make any appointments you have been putting off and catch up on phone calls you need to make! How many of you actually made that smear appointment??? I am going to nag.. and nag .. and nag.. [/STRIKE]
I had my smear in May – but I have sorted out all my team’s HR paperwork which I’ve been putting off, and done my expenses!
Vacuum & turn mattress before replacing with fresh linen.. Not feeling strong enough for this, so will do it next week:o
    Air the duvet

15 minutes floordrobe clearance Nothing there :j
    Level 3
Vacuum floors in bedroom and on landing
Sort through a cupboard and fling everything that is dead

Clear a hotspot.. or spend 15 minutes clearing one. None left in this area :D
Extra tasks list, as usual choose one or more
    1. [STRIKE]29 fling boogie time, go on grab a bag and clear that clutter [/STRIKE]Found some books to send to the charity shop, but I’m running out of clutter…
    2. [STRIKE]attack those naughty spider housing estates!! [/STRIKE]They’re so frightened after the past 3 weeks they’ve all decided to relocate :rotfl:
    3. [STRIKE]Clean windows in these rooms [/STRIKE]They’re clean… I know this because I’m still trying to get used to how much lighter the house is
    4. [STRIKE]Clear out your sweaters.. how many are fit for making into draught excluders?[/STRIKE] None. I’ve been brutal about my clothes in the past… so I have none for gardening or DIY
If I keep this up, I'm going to run out of clutter to clear and dirt to clean :rotfl:

Not too bad considering I've been alternating between working, checking the thread and feeling sorry for myself (back to the GP again tomorrow I think, as I'm seriously fed up).

I've got a bit of a dilemma to sort out as well - I want to have my utility room redone (the theory is that if it is nicer/more organised then I'll be nice/more organised!). It's a fairly major piece of work, as I'm replacing the window, taking down part of a wall, putting down a new floor and lining the walls and ceiling with insulation and plasterboard (its single skin at the moment). I still haven't come up with a final floorplan to fit everything in, and the guy who quoted for it in MAY kept saying he'd ring with dates and then not doing it. He's now said he can do it...(just checking my email to make sure I've got it right) ... in a couple of weeks (still no firm date), and that I don't need to order anything as he'll just do the preparatory work.

I'd be interested in your opinions... I don't want to be without my utility room for a moment longer than necessary. I'll also have to clear out the garage first to put everything in there (its got electricity, so the freezer can go in there), but I'll have no WM, DW, TD, MW and I keep ALL my cleaning stuff in there. I'm a bit worried that if it gets done in bits it might never get finished. So should I let him do it, then work out how things will fit and do the next bit? Or tell him that he needs to go over the plans with me, then I'll order everything, and once I've got delivery dates we can agree a start date? Or get some more quotes and keep putting it off? (if I put it off for long enough, I might be able to afford it ;) ).

Nicki - Didn't you go and look at a house last week? What happened about that one?

Moving costs you can claim from DSS. I think. It used to be the case. Might be worth checking.
