Not saying this is usual practice but I thought I would let you know what happened to me. Bought a doormat from Tesco reduced from £8 to £2.50. Charged full price at till. Went to CS-woman took mat and went to find display-was gone for ages. When she came back she told me that she couldnt find the mats on display OR a price ticket on the shelf edge. I knew that both were there about 20 minutes ago otherwise how could I have known the price was incorrect so I went upstairs to the display-none of my mats or its price label was there-all other full price mats still in situ. I cannot believe there was a run on doormats in the few minutes it took me to get to the checkout...just my experience but it may be worth accompanying your CS assistant to the display when there is a fairly large overcharge...I know I will be in future.

I buy a lot of reduced foods from my local Co-Op. Being a bit stressed with little one I didn't watch them scanning stuff and when I got home all my reduced stuff had gone through at full price. Give them their due they gave me a refund for all the stuff when I went back later.

So this is just a warning to keep an eye on what they are scanning when you buy reduced stuff. They put everything through so quick it's easy to miss the reduced stickers.
    Boots and Tesco tart!! :heartpuls
  • Sometimes the offers are not offers at all. Asda was selling some garden games stuff at £5 each or 2 for £10??!!!

When I was a student I occasionally went in Asda and distinctly remember some apple and blackcurrant squash which was 98p by itself or 2 for £2 on 'special' offer!

Just posted what happened to me today in Tescos where they still had R&R as *our promise*. http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=18671951&postcount=48

I was reminded about being in Wholefoods New York in Dec where the checkout operator ran an item through the till at $10.99 (as the bar code didn't work) when the SEL was $9.99. Went to CS, woman looked at the receipt, opened the till and gave me $11, never had to go see the SEL, never looked at me like I was a common criminal....left the CS in under a minute....can you image something like that happening in Tescos or anywhere else here!!! Here if you suggest they overcharged you, they treat you like a thief!!! Supermarkets are not good for my blood pressure!!! lol

I've read this too. I ask for it and also show them a print of the relevant section of their website where this policy is mentioned. Here's the link to their FAQ page which details this policy, amongst other things (last question on the page) :

    http://www.asda.co.uk/corp/customer_service/FAQs.htm

'What happens if I am overcharged?
If you have been overcharged in any of our stores we will gladly refund the difference (if you have been overcharged) and give you a £2 Gift card voucher for each product ;) you have been mischarged for'.

I think it's best to print out this page and carry it with you, just in case the CS people need written proof that this is indeed the company's policy. ;)

    HTH :)

I've just had a reply from them as I was over charged for 4 products on Saturday & was only given 1 £2 "sorry card"

    Thank you for your message.

    Hello MrsE,

I'm very sorry to hear that you are frequently overcharged in your local store.

The procedure for such an event would be to refund you the difference that you have paid extra and offer a £2 gift card to apologise for the overcharge per transaction/receipt, NOT per item.

I hope this clears this matter up for you, if there is anything else I can help you with please let me know.

    Kind Regards

    Over charged AGAIN yesterday.

After she had finished, I said "my £2 voucher for being over charged".

Of course she said I was just going to do that:rolleyes:

At least with tescos R&R & DTD they hand it over & don't have to be prompted.
  • Be careful when shopping at Morrisons. I got Celebrations chocs which were buy one get one free. Both items came up on the till receipt. Fortunately, I checked it as I left the checkout. At Customer Services the staff said this is happening all the time!!! Staff phoned store manager and reported it, but commented to each other that they are being told they are doing too many refunds!!! Don't let them get away with it. You only get your money back - but that is better than being out of pocket. Long queues at Customer Service are a nuisance, especially if you are shopping in your lunch hour.

I have become more frustrated recently with supermarket shopping at our local sainsburys.
In the last month there hasn't been one week that the offers have been taken off the bill correctly, also offers on the shelf have been faced over with the incorrect product - so you could easily end up paying for a more expensive product.
I now carefully check that the shelf edge (promotional tickets) match the size of the product that is behind the ticket.

My worse experience was some cathedral city cheese by one get one free ticket label 3.50 ish picked up two went through checkout this time didn't check receipt until I got home and had ended up paying £9.00 for the two blocks as shelf stackers had put the larger block behind the promotion ticket. As I had left the shop nothing I could do - so beware check before you drive off!
  • I don't see why there's nothing you can do once you've left the shop. I've phoned our local Sainsburys in the past to complain and they just say tell CS next time you come in. CS have always given me the refund without any problem.
