  • I always add mine up on a calculator all the way round, really so that I can stick to my budget.
I always get confuddled when buying fruit and veg though as I don't have the time to weigh everything and work out the price so I just estimate.

I always check my receipt, always! I shop in Tesco and on SO many occasions I have been mis-charged. In fact I reckon to be mis-charged at least 4/10 times, so much so the Customer Service often recognise me and last time out of the corner of my eye I saw the lady roll her eyes to her colleague, then I started to feel guilty of highlighting the problems. BUT, how much money must they be making? I understand that Tesco have stopped their "Refund double the difference" policy, and it is at the staff's discretion. But I think they should refund double the difference, I think we should be paid that little bit for helping them do the job they should be doing in the first place.

Some of the things I am constantly watching is BOGOF esp on clementines and offer labels that have expired but still remain on the shelf. I've got a good memory for figures so find it easy to spot the mistakes on my receipt, esp because I am always trying to watch my pennies. I stand at the end of the checkouts checking my receipts everytime.

Couple of weeks ago my 8 yr old daughter told me that she had to come shopping with me, and estimate the price of the shopping, by rounding up and down to the closest pound. This she did, and came up with the figure of £72. Checkout girl asked for £71.80!!! So, you don't necessarily need to have a calculator, just estimate and at least you will have an idea of where the bill should be, rather than just relying on what they tell you. Then you have a better idea of whether to look closer at the bill or not.
  • I estimate too and nearly always get close. Last weeks shop was about £4.30 out so knew something was wrong, checked receipt and 2 items that were on offer for £2 each came up at full price, went to cs and they went and checked. Refunded the mistake and got £2 card so good but just a shame it happens. I have a very strict £40 a week food budget so although it might not sound a lot its prob a whole days worth of food if you break it down. Stopped shopping at tesco because this was constant, hope it doesnt happen at asda again.

I've read this too. I ask for it and also show them a print of the relevant section of their website where this policy is mentioned. Here's the link to their FAQ page which details this policy, amongst other things (last question on the page) :

    http://www.asda.co.uk/corp/customer_service/FAQs.htm

'What happens if I am overcharged?
If you have been overcharged in any of our stores we will gladly refund the difference (if you have been overcharged) and give you a £2 Gift card voucher for each product ;) you have been mischarged for'.

I think it's best to print out this page and carry it with you, just in case the CS people need written proof that this is indeed the company's policy. ;)

    HTH :)

Have clicked on this link but can't find the relevant section - has it been removed? Would really like a copy of this as CS in some stores say that they don't do it anymore. TIA

    Just for info.

Had another overcharge in Asda this week and so did my sister. Instead of us both queuing for ages she took all the shopping to tha car whilst I sorted it. The csa was quick to refund the difference and then seemed to look ahead to the next customer. Of course I asked for the £2 giftcard and she gave me just 1. I then said its per transaction- as per the new policy and she replied that I would only get one card as I was doing the receipts together instead of separately! Had I queued and had 1st refund, then queued and got 2nd refund I wouldve got £4 giftcard! lol Told her to call the manager down then.... to which she replied "well this time..." so I got the £4 in the end but what a joke.

The overcharges were small but its the principle now!

Was charged £5.52 for a packet of bread rolls at the weekend:eek: They had labelled it as 8 packets - good job I checked. Got my refund and was then offered the £2 giftcard without prompting

I usually shop at Sainsburys and get overcharged at least 50% of the time.
Luckily, I can remember the price of everything including special offers and although as I pack my own bags I cannot check the prices as they are scanned I always check the receipt afterwoods.
I then make the trip to the Customer Services desk where, depending on who is there I either 1. Get given a refund straight away (just the overcharged amount, no "double the difference", free product or gift card!) 2. have to wait while they send someone to check the shelf price then get the refund as above (sometimes with an apology but often without!)
After 2 mistakes last week and 1 this week I have got fed-up and emailed a complaint to Sainsburys - will see what they say.

Sometimes shop at Asda but very rarely find a mistake.
Only very occasionally shop at Tescos so cannot say - but going there this week to I'll see how they do!

I am so mad with myself - usually at least give a quick look at receipts but today popped quickly into iceland with my grown son and we were chatting and I just paid what was asked.

When I got home found I had been charged twice for frozen steak and twice for chicken dippers yet only bought one of each.

Will call into store tomorrow but not hopeful as how can I prove I only bought one of each........never happened there before and will not be letting it happen again
Need to get back to getting finances under control now kin kid at uni as savings are zilch
