Desperate - ripped off on my credit card in a lapdancing club

Options
I'm embarrassed, humiliated, and ashamed to be asking this question.

Firstly, visiting a strip club is not something I ordinarily do - but on Thursday night, I was hideously drunk and taken to a club with a colleague. I have no recollection whatsoever of the next 4 hours, and it seems my colleague deserted me in there.

(I know some of you will not believe that I have no memory of this time, but I assure you that it is true. I remember nothing but random snippets until leaving. I've never experienced this kind of memory loss before.)

I woke up feeling dirty and embarrassed, then distraught to find 4 credit card receipts, each for £1000 in my pocket. All verified by pin. The last of these was at 4.30am, some 1 1/2 hours after the club's licensing hours.

This will ruin me financially. I returned to the club the following day, but they claim I authorised the transactions (though I have no memory of doing so). Even if I did put the PIN in, I cannot believe I would've ever knowingly authorised such transactions - these sums will cripple me.

Please can anyone tell me whether I have any redress whatsoever? I feel I've been duped and taken advantage of....

I'm devastated. This is proving to be an nightmarish and expensive morality lesson.

Thanks, MJ

I don't think you will be able to get out of this.

    I hope I am wrong.

This sounds dodgy to me- even if you were feeling generous and has randomly ordered champagne for everyone I doubt it would come to so much. Also for the amounts to come to exactly £1000 each time??
Does anyone know if this is the maximum amount per chip and pin transaction?
Report it to the police- they may have had similar complaints. Maybe a scam going on there??

  • Although I am no expert, I would say the only one you may be able to fight would be the one you say was at 4.30am (after the end of their licensed hours). Have you spoke to your colleague about this?
  • Foxy-lady beat me to it when I was going to say how come there were 4 x £1000 amounts?

Definitely not a set-up. I'm told we were separated, and he then thought I'd left (though I hadn't...)

The club claimed each £1000 was for an hour - though I could've been asleep in there for all I can recall. I genuinely know nothing about my time in there, which is as distressing as the financial aspect.

id be all for going to the police tbh, at least theyd be able to get access to cameras and you never really know if someone has already complained about this ...........
  • Report them to the police for fraud! That's shocking!
Loan-£3600 only 24 months of payments to go!!!
All debt consolodated and cards destroyed!!
As D'Ream would sing 'Things.....can only get better'!!!
  • Obviously, the concern is that you don't recall your time there. Have you reported this to the Police or told anyone about it?
