I got patio windows fitted .It wasn't a straight forward replacement (the original window needed knocked through to ground level) I had to get a local man to supply and fit it . The problem came in about a year the glass slipped and the doors wouldn't close .I phoned modern windows who made the doors ,they said it wasn't there problem as they didn't fit them and they offered no guarantee if they didn't fit the doors .

    Hi All,

Just wanted to pick your brains.. do any of you know of a decent and reasonably priced double-glazing firm in the North West?

    Thanks!!
  • Try ringing Younger Homes in Maghera. They seem to be really popular, there's another company who my dad uses (he's a foreman outside Derry so he will probably know a few) and I will ask him when Im chatting to him next for you.

Are you looking for double glazing panel ? ie only the glass or the whole PVC package ?

If only the glass, McNeil/McManus in Altnagelvin Industrial Estate are your boys:T if the whole PVC frame and windows, I also have heard good things about Younger Homes:T oh and don't go near Village Windows they are Cowboys:eek:
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

steveymp - Have you or a mate had experience dealing with Village Windows? What leads you to call them cowboys?!

A friend of mine is getting double glazing fitted throughout his house.

Is there such a thing as a double glazing grant these days?

Yes, they still exist, though I don't know the qualifying criteria, nor how much is given out. Your friend would need to ring the Environmental Services Dept of the local council to get the ball rolling.

I recently contacted my father's local council grants office requesting information on availability of funding for windows, roof etc. The house is in a pretty poor state and I had pretty poor response!! Basically there is no funding at present for any grants, well that's what they told me.
If you have any luck let me know!
