Double glazing recommendations please (MERGED)

I live in Carrickfergus.
I'm intending to replace old windows soon, can anyone recommend a reliable firm who can be trusted to do a good job at a reasonable price? I don't mind paying for good service, would prefer a quality product that will last.

elliehenny, i was warned off Turkington due to price but we got them round anyway to provide a benchmark.

Fairco McIlhagga - [TEXT DELETED BY FORUM TEAM]
    Turkington - 4.9K
    Small Independant 1 - 4.5K
    Small independant 2 - 4.0K

With a bit of to and fro-ing Turkington got down to 4.6K and were providing the prefered option on an old lead lined window. The independants would have removed it entirely, Turkington put it into a double glazed unit. At least we retained a bit of character despite the plastic windows.

These quotes were for K/low e glass with argon insert, apart from the 2nd independant.

Went with Turkington in the end, they inserted our lead lined window into the frame upside down at first but changed this without fuss when it was highlighted. To surmise, i am sure they aren't the cheapest but service was good and they werent that expensive. Everyone woohoos like we are millionaires when told who put in the windows. Ours were done by Turkington's - no problems whatsoever. By the way, I think I have vouchers here which would get me £25 or something if I recommend them to someone else. If you do go ahead with them, would you drop me a PM so I can get a few £££? ;-)
  • Regal Windows in Kilroot will be hard to beat - I have just had 4 windows and a French doors fitted for £1500.00. The closest another company could get was £2300.00(got 4 other quotes) The quality is great, the service is superb - no hard sell at all and they are very easy to deal with.

I have no interest in this company at all just giving inpartial advice as requested.
  • Thanks for your reply will contact Regal windows for quote.

  • I phoned Turkingtons several times, still waiting for someone to get back to me. Not good.

Pro-Clad were quick to reply, came out promptly, gave quotes, no hard sell and were pleasant to deal with. £1600 for four mahogany finish windows, one quite large. reasonable quality

Fairco McIlhagga: gave quotes but only when i pushed for it. He said they put everything into a computer and get accurate totals. I replied I wanted a quote to compare with others and he finally came up with figure of £2850, he forgot to include one window so had redo the figures. He remarked that he would rather talk to my husband as he would understand better what he was talking about! Told him clearly that my husband knew as much as me about double glazing.

To be fair, I was impressed by the quality of the windows and have several neighbours who had their windows replaced by Fairco. If I can get the price lowered considerably, we might choose them.Think that sum is way too much for four windows.
  • I priced a full set of windows for my house (21 windows) The best price I got was a firm called Amazing Glazing. Price was approx. £3000 from memory, but then I managed to get a cheap painter so just got them painted instead.
Amazing Glazing might be worth a punt anyway, even for a price check. Number should be in the Yellow Pages.

    Hi,

I am currently deciding on which company I should purchase a uPVC front door and side light windows from. I would want the company to install it as well. The best quotes I have got are from Proclad in Newtownabbey, Windows 2000 in Newtownabbey and Budget Windows in Bangor. Has anyone any experiences good/bad from these companies or have any recommendation who I should go for?

I tried Fairco McIlhagga, Turkington etc but they are £1,000 and £700 dearer respectively. Just want to make sure I choose right and from a company who have been proven to do a good job. Thanks.

Proclad supplied and installed my sisters, excellent value for money, quality and service. I hope to use them myself when funds are better later in the year.

Windows 2000 did our patio doors last summer, the 2 monkeys they used filled our bin with all the small bits of rubble to the extent that i couldn't move it and we've recently discovered that water is leaking in because they blocked up one of the drain holes. The foreman that came out to investigate the leakage told us they weren't using them anymore. The doors themselves seem to be pretty good quality and they got the price right with little haggling.
