  • i used woburn and they did a fantastic job, and i am extremely picky. i also specified loads of things that deviated from the standard installation methods, and they had no problems delivering what i required.

it is very unusual in my experience for a company to meet my expectations, so when a company like woburn come along and exceed expectations then i am very happy indeed. i easily reccomend them above all other companies that i have used in the past, including (in order of fisrt = worst):

    Windows 2000
    Turkingtons
    Pro-Clad
    Fairco

Just to be nosey, what sort of things were non-standard that you were looking for on the installation?

    Cheers, Des.
  • Wooden doors cheaper  I've had quotes of between £2000 and £3000 for front door and side lights and that dosn't include fitting.
Any suggestions as to where i might try for a good quality wooden front door?

I suspect relative to the wooden doors / pvc frames thing, its only cheaper NOT to replace the doors, ie people replace their old frames but don't spend the extra to do the doors.

i asked for timber cills (they fitted them at no extra cost), i asked for fully plastered reveals (not plastic strips or silicone), i asked for argon filled and low-e glass (very little extra), i asked for gergeon bar on just the openings on the front of the house. we also are very fussy indeed (mainly due to bad experiences with the other companies) about the finish, if i think i could do the job as good or better than the fitters, or if i think they took shortcuts with excessive plastic or silicone, then i dont think its worthwile.

the fitters were fantastic, they tried as much as possible not to enter the house, they also turned up each day at 7:30, very tidy, prompt and polite. also i ordered the windows only 2 weeks ago, and two weeks later they are fitted to a high standard with no fuss, mess or disruption to christmas, exactly to my specification.

thanks to the people who reccomended them on this thread / site, they have been a great find, and they also do building work, so i will contact them next year for my extension!

Another lurker here! We used Getty Glass [https://www.gettyglass.com] this August to replace most of our old dg windows. Their price was fair [on comparison], they were professional, punctual, completed installation within day - took away all the old glass and left the place tidy.
