Bumping this thread up. I'm replacing my windows and looking to get a good deal with a reputable company. Anyone got experience with any companies, preferably north-west or even donegal?

    Thanks for your replies!

steveymp - Have you or a mate had experience dealing with Village Windows? What leads you to call them cowboys?!

Yep a couple of mates got windows put in by them, but had to keep chasing them to get the job completed properly:mad: this went on for months on end, but thankfully they had the wit to hold off a final payment till everything was done correctly. One of them got snotty letter demanding final payment, but a quick reply from their solicitor stopped that and the work got done to their satisfaction shortly afterwards.

Another work friend got a conservatory from Village Windows, all good at the time but leaked anytime there was heavy rain:( I haven't used them personally but always get work done by recommended folk myself. VW do not come with glowing refences:o
I am trying, honest;) very trying according to my dear OH:rotfl:

There is a lot of bad press about VW. But I used them last year and they were the best price. The only guys who gave us a full drawing and the details of the sunroom plus payment in installments. They didn't bother to collect the last installment (3K) for over six months.

I know they contracted out a lot of the installation work to white van men with spirt levels:o Never really heard much complaints about the product they sell only the installation of said products:o If they improve installation they may be worth a go, but I have been warned off them:o

You are right about the white van men with spirit level, this happened to me on day one and while doing digging for foundation they ploughed the entire garden and had to re-seed the entire garden after the work is completed. They paid for all that without me asking

Had a friend who had windows done by VW and had only good to say about them so I asked them for a quote, but I am continually having to chase them for it, so I have more or less given up on them. If I have to chase after them to get a quote, I reckon it might just be like that trying to get them to finish the job.

    Anyone got any other recommendations?

The above mentioned younger windows in Maghera have been on the go for quiet a few years now http://www.youngerhomes.com may be well worth a try:T they do work throughout Ireland.

I'm surprised in the current financial climate that a company like VW have to be chased for a quote:eek: as you say it doesn't bode well at all for getting any work done with them:o

That's exactly what I thought - they lost my business, but that's their problem.

Can anyone help out on the 'internally glazed' thing? I got a quote from a very reputable company who told me that the internally glazed thing isn't all its cracked up to be. They say that if the glazing is done properly, with security clips, external glazing is actually a better system (water runs the right way off the windows etc). I am not going to just take them at their word and have done a bit of research on the internet but it hasn't really helped, as there seem to be two schools of thought. Apparently old style uPVC windows were easy to lift out if the beading was on the outside, but the newer ones have security clips etc etc and its no easier to break in to those than the internally glazed ones....is there anyone who actually knows about this out there?
