I am dreading DD's party this year - we have always got away with having little family parties but this time she will be 6 and wants a party with her friends. I am considering hiring somewhere but have no idea what sort of costs are involved - its not until March so have plenty of time to think/worry/save.
Hope DD gets better soon and she enjoys her party xx
Taxi - hope you are feeling better today x x x
Its dd 6th birthday, we,ve hired the local councils sports centre, has abouncy castle, things to do as well, its booked out to us only, got it for 2 hrs it was £46.50. My dds best friend shes 6 as well, so her mum and me going half with the costs.
The party bags (half cost again, I should be on commission), the girls have got head back pack, the boys godzilla pump bag with wallet, only £1.00 each.
The food - they only get 20 mins to eat, so planning on doing each child an individual food box, in with invite was tick/cross what xxx cant have. If the maximum say yes, (30 children) reckon get the catering done for £15.00 includes fruit shoots.
£100 in total, but thats 30 kids.
Down our area, the two wacky warehouses have closed, were left with nothing.
!!! sunday ngt - will be a large vodka and coke!
PS told her next bday she can take 5 friends to the cinema £1.00 showing and to the pub for a kids meal.......xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
With the three kids I have lost count of the number of parties. We have had most bithdays at home with up to 20 littleuns running wild to cinema, bowling and swimming parties over the years( boy I sound old
). Poor DS hes 6 on the 28th and I really have lost the will to hold parties! I keep trying though. He likes bowling so gets a bowling party. Easy to arrange gets food and party bg thrown in. £9 a head though :eek:so being mean with numbers.
mum2zone - sharing the party is a great idea half the hasle and cost. Shame about the wacky warehouses not just for parties but handy for a wet afternoon when kids need to burn off some energy. For years we had nowt now there are two indoor play areas. Isnt is so annoying when people dont respnd to invites? Thats my pet hate end up with more party bags and food than needed because they may still come.
Penguin, Im sure itll be fine I also try to reduce the amount spent on the birthday pressents to compensate for party cost,:j0 -
Evening all - hope everyone has had a good day.
DS is over his bug now at last - lots of cleaning to do though (does anyone else feel the need to disinfect everywhere after someone has had a stomach bug or is it just me being anal?!)
Off to a wedding tomorrow - so money to be spent but will try and limit it, not drinking so that should help and wearing a dress that I bought for another wedding (different circle of people so no one will notice!) in true MSE style - at one time I wouldnt have even thought twice about buying new stuff - the only thing new is a clutch bag that was £8.
No news on the debt busting side but everything is up to date.
KP - it seems to be getting more and more competitive with the kids parties as well. DD was invited to a makeover party (hair, nails, make up etc) at only 4 and a friend of mine her daughter has been invited to a hot tub party at 7! Not one of the parties she has been to recently have done the traditional party games which seems such a shame - I definately wont be doing any competing!
Hope everyone enjoys their weekend - see you all tomorrow x xPay Debt by Xmas 16 - 0/12000

Thank god it isn't just me, on way for swimming lessons yesterday and dd still coughing, parked up, she says I dont feel well, so Im sat in the back of the car with her, ringing the gp, arranging appointment, receptionist, um ar... the next thing dd throwing up, Im heaving,,,,,,,,,,amazing we got an appointment 15minutes later......dd has chest infection now on antibiotics.......all the way home I was hanging my head out of the window......left my darling parents to clean up.

Hi everyone - well I have decided I must have the worst luck or the MSE God was trying to save me money!
Went to the wedding ceremony which was lovely but never made it to the reception as I promptly started throwing up, seems I have caught DS's bug had to get OH to pick me up and missed the reception and the night time. I should be drunk now and instead I have been stuck in the bathroom - nice.
But I suppose the silver lining is that it will boost my weight loss!
Hope everyone had a more successful day than me! x xPay Debt by Xmas 16 - 0/12000

Ah no, are you ok, apart from the obviuos being stuck in bathroom, hopefully just be a 24hr bug.
Your have to get ur OH to make up for it when ur better. xxxx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx0 -
Thanks Mum - starting to feel a bit more human now! Gutted I missed the reception and the evening but at least I got to see the ceremony. Typical! Hope DD has enjoyed her day and she is feeling better. Bet you could do with a few glasses of wine tonight!
Well bit of good news. Weighed myself tonight and have lost 4 lbs this week making it half a stone lost in 3 weeks yeay! Its cheating really because the stomach bug accounts for most of that 4lbs but its given me a great boost - its 2 and a half weeks until my birthday - is it possible to lose another half stone by then? I'll give it a good go!
Hope everyone has had a good day - no news on debt busting. OH had to take last night off to look after the kids as there was no way I could even hold my head up never mind change nappies and make dinners! but he would have taken the night off anyway if I had gone to the wedding so no difference - just annoyed as it feels like a 'waste' of his night off.
See you all later. x xPay Debt by Xmas 16 - 0/12000

Okay, you owe £39,000. From what I've read you have no grip on reality. I've seen you talk about takeaways - if you need something quick what's wrong with eggs on toast? - paying for days out - what's wrong with playing in the back garden or doing jig saws, reading, colouring indoors when it rains.
And what's the latest - HIRING somewhere for a party for a six year old! You're 'avin a larf! You really need to get a grip, there is a little mantra you need to learn 'I CANNOT AFFORD IT'.
I read these threads where the self-indulgence that gets people into MASSIVE debt goes on and on while they think they are dealing with their debts. Your children are learning FALSE lessons - they are learning that you can ALWAYS have what you want. Well, life just ain't like that - and you know what - start watching the news, your debt is going to get very expensive, unemployment is getting worse and life in general is changing and not for the better.
You may have been able to pay for your 'out of control' recent spending - but that money could have been paid off of your MASSIVE debt. You need to do some thinking about your position, 'cos it ain't that good!0
