  • Funny really was just looking at one thread by chrisandanne where she was asking for help for a debt for her father with e.on and was dismayed at the harsh treatment DCA's dealt her father..true they are awful and she goes on to say how helpful everbody was..shame she can't extend the same courtesy except i can't post as i might be too harsh and say spend less...they definately require a reality check.
I don't think you owed them an explanation at all..they should remember this board is here for all to get advice on and not be judged..it is a two way process.

I am not having a dig at her father..my gran is the same age and i would fight tooth and nail if the same happened to her..just making it clear that the advice given was good and the same on here for everyone in similar position.

I wouldnt mind but they couldnt even get the facts right on the other thread. Children atill need to have a life growing up but obviously we need to ration it to what we can. I wont make my kids miss out on things because I couldnt budget properly. Its a learning curve.
your doing a brilliant job and dont you ever forget it, its a learning curve for all of us, and hense we all support each other. If life was perfect and everyone debt free, it would be a very boring life.
xx rip dad... we had our ups and downs but we’re always be family xx

    Hi Penguin

Here is a big hug from me...someone who has never been in debt until after July last year....but now, having been flooded........I am now £30k in debt....owing to the flood, relocation, illness, a carp loss adjuster, a disabling injury to right hand that left me unable to work for 10 weeks (I'm self employed and my job means I have to be able to drive...and may leave me semi-disabled for good)........and everything else that comes to kick people in the teeth when they're down. I MIGHT...if I'm lucky.... get some of this back on the insurance...but I;ve had to spend the cash out up front!

To Moany: you may well feel your comments are relevant to all DFW's..we'll leave that debate for another day.....but personally I think you picked the wrong person to make an example out of........the real DFW stalwarts (of whom Penguin is one)...have not necessarily advertised how they got into the position they are in today.. If you take a look on this Board you will see that certain people ...who have never been in debt before....have had the misfortune to lose their job or have some terrible life changing event/circumstance happen..(often sudden bereavement or serious illness)....and the re-adjustment after the event (and subsequent debts/effect on cash flow) is painful and hard..to juggle things you have never had to juggle before takes time to learn..and accept....and i think Penguin is doing a very good job at adjusting..even though it is hard for her......so well done P!!

I sincerely hope you and yours don;t ever have such an event/series of events happen to you such that you are left in the position I find myself in at this current time....and I am lucky..because I have no dependents to look after unlike a lot of the people on this Board...including dear Penguin.

She WILL get there...go pick on somebody on your own Board!

    Hugs Penguin

Hi Moany - thank you for your comments. I appreciate what you are saying and I know we have been living well considering our debts and I dont deny that - hence why I have laid everything bare here - no point in pretending I am spending less than I am. We have been managing to pay our debts but I have been spending left over money elsewhere instead of overpaying our debts something which we are now addressing.

Bob - thank you very much too.

Well phew, update on finances. I have 416.29 in the account, 70.00 in the house, 950.00 due to go in on the 29.09 making - 1436.29. I need to have 1100.00 in the account for the 01st to cover bills which leaves 336.29 available - have just made an overpayment of £50.00 to MBNA and £30.00 to Dotty P (which I hope to clear at the end of the month) so not too bad. Will be clearing Dooty P at the end of the month but dont want to do it too early until I have double checked everything has been paid. x x

    Hi Hun

    Keep going...you're doing fab!!

  • Penguin, I went and read your post on the other thread. I never knew your story before.

Can I just say you are seriously impressive. I hope you feel very proud of yourself. To handle all that and have the sense to want to get out of debt etc.

    very cool

    xx
    Nevertheless she persisted.

Thank you Buffy - tbh the last 6 years have really flown by and we now feel that we are properly settling down.

Sometimes you do forget and it is good to look back and remember how far we have come. I remember when my eldest was newborn and we were literally counting the pennies to buy nappies one day. We had to get our couches, fridge, freezer, washing machine and even hoover on a Comet store card (i cringe to think about it now!) as we literally moved in with nothing (it has long been paid off now) When I was pregnant I slept in a second hand single bed that our landlord gave us (I think he took pity!) and OH on the floor in the living room - it was a pretty dire time and I think I have blocked a lot of it out!

Thanks again everyone - true DFW spirit. x x

All those tough times are what makes us stronger whereas those posters on that board have never had it bad and will be quivering wrecks once the recession hits them!!!!...see how many of those lose their houses...
  • My intention was to shock - I certainly achieved that - more than intended! I am sorry for offending anyone, that was not my intention either.

Back in the recession of the 1990's I was a family solicitor and between 1991 and 1993 the number of divorces rocketed and the cause of many of them was debt and repossession. I bet there are those who read the threads who know just how much misery there is for everyone in the family when this happens.

Sometimes a shock can make someone re-assess their spending, that was what my aim was here. I got it wrong.
