  • What a provocative post MM, i hope as a fellow Oldstyler looking for help on a few things that you are not treated in the same vain..shame on you!

I am sure Penguin is well aware how tough things are and particularly so when she is poorly and looking after a family.

I know that everyone is in debt for different reasons and most are aids to help on focus, lessons are to be learned and we all learn i think your lesson for the day is politeness, encouragement and empathy..i am sure these are the main traits on Oldstyle as well.

    I have removed my post.
  • I am sure your comments are well meaning, but i personally find them offensive and then to go and spread this to another forum is reprehensible.

Your attitude does you no credit..as your advice could have been taken at face value if it were not for your comments elsewhere! Plain old scandal mongering and not one of the reasons Martin set up this site.

there is NO need for the harshness of your comments. I am sure that penguin knows full well the situation they're in and we're here to help and support, not belittle and criticise.
I suggest to you that your change your attitude and get off your high horse before you make a lot of people (myself included) who care for penguin very angry.

Hi Moany - thank you for your comments. I appreciate what you are saying and I know we have been living well considering our debts and I dont deny that - hence why I have laid everything bare here - no point in pretending I am spending less than I am. We have been managing to pay our debts but I have been spending left over money elsewhere instead of overpaying our debts something which we are now addressing.

Bob - thank you very much too.

Well phew, update on finances. I have 416.29 in the account, 70.00 in the house, 950.00 due to go in on the 29.09 making - 1436.29. I need to have 1100.00 in the account for the 01st to cover bills which leaves 336.29 available - have just made an overpayment of £50.00 to MBNA and £30.00 to Dotty P (which I hope to clear at the end of the month) so not too bad. Will be clearing Dooty P at the end of the month but dont want to do it too early until I have double checked everything has been paid. x x

Okay, you owe £39,000. From what I've read you have no grip on reality. I've seen you talk about takeaways - if you need something quick what's wrong with eggs on toast? - paying for days out - what's wrong with playing in the back garden or doing jig saws, reading, colouring indoors when it rains.

And what's the latest - HIRING somewhere for a party for a six year old! You're 'avin a larf! You really need to get a grip, there is a little mantra you need to learn 'I CANNOT AFFORD IT'.

I read these threads where the self-indulgence that gets people into MASSIVE debt goes on and on while they think they are dealing with their debts. Your children are learning FALSE lessons - they are learning that you can ALWAYS have what you want. Well, life just ain't like that - and you know what - start watching the news, your debt is going to get very expensive, unemployment is getting worse and life in general is changing and not for the better.

You may have been able to pay for your 'out of control' recent spending - but that money could have been paid off of your MASSIVE debt. You need to do some thinking about your position, 'cos it ain't that good!

I can only presume you have got out of the wrong side of the bed, what is your problem, becuase from where I see there is a big one.
The Op has opened her heart and soul, maybe told people on here things that maybe her own family do not know and you be little her. I do not think that you had to be so rude, and to have the "b*lls to put it on another thread and basically moan moan moan, it is past a joke.

So what if the Op wants to hire somewhere for her childrens party, so are you saying that someone in debt should not consider hireing a venue for her childs birthday. Do you want to have a dig at me, Im in debt, with credit cards to about 5k and family and saveings that I had ot use about 5k, does that mean that I have to be a miserable so and so, because of my debt..... should my daughter not have a party......... I shared the party with a friend, inc hire, food for 24 children, 6 adults, party bags, it came to £110.00 which is £55.00 each. Its not my daughters fault I have debts so why she suffer.

I THINK YOUR THE ONE WHO IS HAVEING A LARF!! GO AND BE A MOANER ON SOMEONES ELSES THREAD.

  • I wouldnt mind but they couldnt even get the facts right on the other thread. Children atill need to have a life growing up but obviously we need to ration it to what we can. I wont make my kids miss out on things because I couldnt budget properly. Its a learning curve.

Thank you so much everyone for all your comments. I know we still have a long way to go but I feel that we are so much better than even a month ago never mind a year ago.

I have tried to explain things on the other thread but have probably ended up making it worse because I was typing so fast! And thank you KP for pointing out the £500.00 on takeaways - I would have the worst arteries in the world if I had managed that! x x
