Can someone kick me into gear please?!

Hi all - I have had a terrible month DF wise - I have spent more money than I have done in the past 12 months and even spent on a credit card (but have paid it off again straight away!) so I need a good hoof in the right direction again please.

It has been an expensive month with birthdays, a wedding (not mine btw!), kids being off school so lots of days out and double nursery fees but even without all that my food bills have crept up to about 500.00 pm again along with takeaways, more new clothes and shoes (that werent really needed), nights out and a massive phone bill that came this morning (100.00 plus).

OH's income has dropped although I have no idea what to so I am going to have to start keeping track of his earnings to get an idea of his monthly income.

Plan of action

New soa
Scour phone bill for why its so high and look at changing
Look into changing utility supplier
Count up money around the house and actually put it in the bank (not inc sealed jar)
Keep a spending diary

Hmm theres loads more but thats it for now. x x x x

Hi Buffy - it has been a very expensive month but the part that is worrying me is that I seem to have got used to spending money again if that makes sense and extra months seem to have crept onto the snowball where I havent been making the overpayments I should - either that or OH's income has dropped more than I realised!

Ive been a very naughty penguin! x x

Hi hun.. keep your chin up .. i`ve also had a shocker of a month!!

My exhaust blew on my car - then my brake pads and discs had to be replaced (I was advised they were on minimum thickness 6 months ago!!) .. it`s been half term, had 3 birthdays and I was also in hospital for a short time therefore off work..

We`re now off to the seaside for a few days and I`m BROKE!!

It just seems like its been money money money..

so come next week.. I shall be having a HUGE ebay spree and a car boot blitz.. and trying to get some overtime !!

July/August are always bad for me too - way too many birthdays! You know you can do it, try setting yourself a grocery challenge and hopefully even if you don't make it you won't spend anywhere near as much next month. September's just round the corner and it's a whole new month. x

    Hi Liz and Skint.

Liz - that sounds like a horrific month - hope the car is sorted!

Skint - I am going to have a good go at the grocery challenge - and a rifle through the cupboards and freezer to see what I have already got x x

How could we think of kicking a penguin?

You're probably doing it yourself, and posting here, is facing up to it.
Good luck with next month :D

Olive you have just reminded me of this game!

I think you are right Olive - with OH earning money on a nightly basis we have really got to be on the ball with banking the money and working everything out and I think I have just been a bit lax lately and letting things slip (tbh it started a few months ago but its been really noticeable this month) I am going to have to show OH the spreadsheet so he can fill it in with his earnings otherwise it gets forgotten and we end up with guesstimates.

I have just done a new SOA and it looks ok - we have a high income but also high outgoings but even so its showing a good figure available for debt repayment so we are either overspending or I am way out with OH income.

So first job is to start a new spending diary and earning diary and see which one is wrong! x
