Please explain then how this makes any difference to the fact that there is no RM inssurance for phones over £36 sent overseas?

    Because you've got your money.

If you take a cheque you get your money in 6 days and you can post your telephone to wherever in the world you choose safe in the knowledge that you've been paid.

If you take bank transfer you get your money in a couple of days and again even if you send your phone to a war zone, you've been paid.

If you take paypal you *might* get your money in three weeks time.

Clearly only someone who is a bit simple would choose paypal over a cheque, other than the fact that ebay forces it's paypal service on sellers.

BTW if RM does not provide much in the way of insurance just use a service that does, there's loads of others out there.

Ebay implemented many of their new policies to make ebay safer for buyers as apparently some sellers were rogues who took non paypal payment methods and then refused to refund buyers when goods failed to arrive. Many of us took exception to the assumption that all sellers were 'bad', I think you've just explained in a single post why ebay have made those changes.

It isn't just 'I'm alright Jack' as sellers we should be safeguarding our buyers as well as ourselves and not treat people differently depending on how they paid. My model works for me, yours, according to your threads proudly saying how many times you have been banned, clearly do not. It is just a shame I feel that so few of us get to read your posts as some of us can't put you on ignore like many others have done already.

I think you'll find that scammers use paypal too.

Surely only the sheep really believe that paypal became compulsory for safety reasons, and not because ebay wanted a bigger slice of the action?

So if I were to give you the choice of a reliable and free service provided by well regulated institutions that guarentees safe payment in 6 days or less, or an expensive risky service provided by an offshore company with little or no regulation, that might see payment clearing in three weeks, assuming that nobody was forcing your hand, which would you choose?

You seemed to suggest that sellers should use a service with little in the way of safeguards for either buyer or seller and a shipping method with inadequate insurance.

My vote is for a reliable and free method of payment and properly insured shipping.

The amateur vs. the professional you could argue?

Sadly for buyers only one rakes in more funds for ebay, and is thus promoted as "safe".

As a buyer I would choose paypal all the time, no question. As a seller it doesn't make a lot of difference really (apart from fees!) as I treat all my buyers the same. In fact even looking at the fee aspect I would actually be prpeared to pay fees in some instances than have the hassle of a cheque as my business model is built on a home business and on speed, I don't go to the bank regularly and it is an additional trip for me if I do and thus it wastes my time which i could be using to earn money.

Last Christmas paypal froze all my payments to the tune of several thousand pounds until I showed them receipts of the items I was selling. An absolute joke. I was in a position that I had to pay suppliers cash on delivery in order to get an immediate invoice. Then they wanted to contact suppliers to check I had actually bought the stock from them. How embarrasing. I couldn't sell items in advance even though I knew that had left the warehouse. Fortunately I had money I could fall back on but what about those who haven't.I understand when you say it is to protect the buyer - but this was simply to protect PAYPAL.

I would too. But the seller is the one who loses out. It is not just one way. They pay the fees. They have the hassle if there is a claim. Cash/Cheque/Postal Order or Collect in Person anytime.

Leave him negative feedback stating you're unhappy that you're being made to leave feedback before you've even had a chance to check the item then send him an email letting him know you've done what he asked and he can now send the item.
