  • Ive got a nice sausage & bean casserole

1 or 2 packs of sausages (depending on how many you wanna feed)
    1 red onion chopped up
    a few mushrooms
    1 clove of garlic, crushed
1 can of chopped tomatoes in juice
    1 tablespoon tomatoe puree
    1 can of baked beans
1 small can of butter beans
    2 tablespoons of worcester sauce
mix up chicken, beef or vegetable stock cube with 6floz of water
a pinch of chilli powder if you wish

lightly brown the sausages in oil with the crushed garlic
In a casserole dish add the rest of the ingedients & mix together or if you wish you can fry the onion & mushrooms with the sausages, whatever you want
Then add the sausages & cook in the oven for an hour & half
I have mine wish mash or rice

I brown the sausages first, then add onion, two cans of any beans I've got, tin of tomatoes, and a Colemans mix. Tastes great!

  • Sorry I don't have an actual 'recipe' as I make it up as I go along with whatever I happen to have in!

Just one point though - do make sure you brown the sausages first....I forgot once and in a hurry I just bunged them in - they did cook, but sort-of disintegrated in the sauce.....DH & I thought it was horrible, but the SK's still enjoyed it.....

  • Here we go!! (I love this recipe by the way!!)
    • 12-16 good quality sausages (usually wait til I get a load of whoopsied ones!!)
    • 1 large onion
    • 2-3 cloves garlic
    • 1 tin chopped tomatoes
    • 1/2 pint veg stock? want just enough to cover really. Use 1 pint if doing on the hob
    • slug of sherry- opt
    • 2 peppers, 1 red 1 yellow
    • few mushrooms
    • 1 large sweet potato
    • 1-2 med red chillis, deseeded
    • 1-2 tsp paprika
    • shake of mixed herbs and black pepper
chop it all up and chuck it in!! if you are using sausages with a higher fat content then just grill them before you add them to the cooker otherwise a layer of fat forms on the top!! (Done it you see!! Still works fine though)

Cook for about 4-5 hours on high in a slow cooker, or all day on low. About 45 mins to 1 hour on stove.

It is lush!! And makes loads!!!

  • Hi I am planning to make a sausage casserole in the slow cooker but am a complete slow cooker novice.

should i brown the sausages in a frying pan and drain off the fat before they go in the slow cooker? im a bit concerned about all of the fat coming out of them and going into the casserole?

    what would you do?

    thanks,

    hayley
