Try not to worry.:D
Have you been on a long flight before? its SOOOOOO boring.
And you actually much safer while your flying then you are just pottering around in your car at home.
Take plenty to read, puzzles, a hand held games console maybe.
And dont worry, its fun.“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -
Or just hit the booze..:D“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0

My top tip would be to request a seat on the plane as far back as you can get, because a recent study into aviation fatalities found that planes never reverse into mountains. The MSE Dictionary

I know exactly what you mean, I've been terrified of flying for ages too.
I got hypnosis for it and I'm pretty sure it worked, I still get a bit nervous but nowhere near as bad as I was. If it helps keep in mind that the worst bit is thinking about it in advance and just before you get on the plane, once you actually get up there it's absolutely fine.
Lots of luck!
*edit* I find doing soduku really helpful during takeoff. It distracts me just the right amount0 -
I get a tiny bit nervous when I fly but excited too on take off and landing.
I read a book about modern fears recently. Leaving your kids to play in the park or wrapping them up in cotton wool sort of stuff. It said something like you'd have to jump on a plane every day for seven thousand years before the one you're on crashes, during which time you'd have been killed twenty times driving to and from the airport.
So don't worry about the pilot of the plane, his or her driving will be fine. Just concentrate on your own.0 -
Dont worry about it it will make you more scared, if you just think how many planes take off and land each day without any problems you will see there is nothing to worry about.
All i do is put the headphones on and enjoy the view out of the window.0 -

treat the flight as part of your holiday - someone else serving dinner, no dishes to do, good book to read etc.
Just remind yourself that people fly every day as part of their job - cabin crew, pilots. Keep an eye on the cabin crew and don't worry about anything until they start looking worried!!!!!
I have travelled to many places - mostly long-haul - and the flights are definately worth getting to see other places and see new cultures. Enjoy your holiday!:rotfl:0 -

The best investment anyone can make when flying is noise reducing headphones and if you have a fear of flying, they are even more important. Noise reducing headphones really do isolate cabin hum and noise and because of the sound quality, clarity and cutting out of external noise, they will enable you to lose yourself in the onboard films and your music. The MSE Dictionary

I used to be worried about flying until I took my first flight, which was to the US. It's far too boring to be frightening. You'll be nervous for a little while, and then the boredom will kick in. It's pretty hard to be frightened and bored at the same time.
I would suggest giving yourself something to look forward to during the flight. Maybe treat yourself to a book you've been meaning to read for ages, then the journey can be about looking forward to reading the book instead of worrying about the flight.
My mother and aunt flew for the first time last week, and they were both absolutely dreading it. Now they say it's not so bad and they don't know what they were worrying about. What your imagination can conjure up is far worse than what the reality will be, and I can promise you it won't be anywhere nearly as bad as you think. Let the crew know you're a nervous flyer, and they'll be sure to look after you.
Just remember why you're doing it and have a great holiday!0
