I get a tiny bit nervous when I fly but excited too on take off and landing.
I read a book about modern fears recently. Leaving your kids to play in the park or wrapping them up in cotton wool sort of stuff. It said something like you'd have to jump on a plane every day for seven thousand years before the one you're on crashes, during which time you'd have been killed twenty times driving to and from the airport.
So don't worry about the pilot of the plane, his or her driving will be fine. Just concentrate on your own.
Oooh what books that? It sounds good0 -
What is it about flying that scares you most.
I am not great and got loads of help here when I flew to the caymans
this is what I learned
tell the crew that you're nervous so they look after you
put an elastic band over your hand and if you feel yourself going into a panic spiral snap it to snap yourself out of it
look at the crew - they will just be chatting and doing their job so if they're not worried you don't need to be.
if you hit turbulence just sort of jiggle with it in your seat - it kind of lessens it
don't drink too much alcohol - drink plenty of water as flying is dehydrating and the last thing you need is a headache
all the clunks will be things like the wheels going up or down - not bits falling off
the bing bongs will be equally innocuous but feel free to ask the crew what the noises are if you're worried
Don't look out of the window on take off or landing if you're scared of heights - this is my problem so I always ask for an aisle seat.
have a great tripI'm going to feed our children non-organic food and with the money saved take them to the zoo - half man half biscuit 20080 -
Just remember your death will be very fast. Possibly 300mph+ fast.0

I dont like flying either - and its necessary now as my Dad lives in Spain.
I agree with the jiggling in your seat, I do this landing and take-off. Plus I have the baby in my lap and cling on to her, sing a song pay attention elsewhere.
Once up, I am okay. The aircrew do this for a living and I know totally that its more dangerous getting to and from the airport. This time I drove in Spain and that was far, far more dangerous than flying. And although I know this, my fear of flying is totally irrational and I know it.0 -
Get on the plane just this side of drunk and then top up for much of the flight.
Take some of your favourite music and play it loud on your headphones.
And then drink some more.
It's great fun and has always worked for me.0 -

Nobjocki, your not a REAL doctor, Are you:rolleyes:“Careful. We don't want to learn from this.”0 -
Try and get a seat over wing and next to the window. It'll be smoother and if you do here any dodgy noises you can at least look at one side of the engines for reassurance.
Have a great time.0 -

You could try something called rescue remedy. You can get it from a health food shop. Completely natural but works a treat with nerves. Just put a couple of drops onto your tongue. It comes in a little bottle like eardrops so fine for hand luggage as long as you show it to them.
Florida is great. We are thinking of going again next month. It will be well worth the trip!0
