Spek to your doctor and ask for something to help you sleep. Take it about 20 minutes before you board and wash it down with a whisky. :rotfl: Well, maybe not the whisky, but it will help you relax.
Just think about all the flights that go every day, all over the world and about the tiny tiny number that something actually happens to. You are probably safer on that flight than you are on the motorway.Undefeated Wii Fit ski jump champion!

No,I'm not a doctor or a nobjocki as my wife will testify but she came up with the name.
Back to the original post - I wasn't joking about getting a few drinks down you Yummy.
I've probably flown the Atlantic over 50 times and I don't think I've ever done it sober.
I just view it as a few hours away from telephones and hassle and everyday life being served drinks and food by generally nice people.
And after a few hairy landings you come to appreciate just how good most pilots are and just how safe the planes are too.
Even the women pilots are good but thankfully they don't have to reverse into a parking slot at the aiport.

Pasenger. "how far will this plane fly on one engine?"
Pilot "All the way to the crash site"

I think there might be a problem with the drinking and the kids - you could find social services waiting the far end for you:rotfl:
How are you feeling about it now btw?0 -
I am a clinical hypnotherapist and NLP Master Practitioner, and have helped a few people with phobias, and fear of flying.
Without knowing what it is exactly about flying that you are not finding it easy to deal with, I have a couple of suggestions for you to practice before you go, and use on the flight.
1. Learn to focus on your breathing. You will notice that when you are tense, your breathing pattern is very different to that when you are relaxed. Make it a point to remember to check your breathing several times during the day (sometimes setting an alarm on your watch can help with this) and when you notice your breathing pattern not being what you need it to be, then change it! Doing a simple meditation on the breath can also help. One I find useful is to breathe in for a count of four, hold for a count of seven, then breathe out for a count of eight. Do this as slowly as is comfortable, for four repeats of the pattern. You should notice a difference in your state at the end!
2. Find a comfortable place where you will not be disturbed for a good few minutes. Make yourself comfortable, get your breathing slow and steady, and allow your body to become heavy and limp. Now, when you are relaxing, imagine what the journey to the airport will be like, remembering to stay relaxed...then going through check in, again, staying relaxed...then waiting for your flight to be called...oh and shopping if you like!...again staying nicely relaxed, checking your breathing. Then imagine yourself walking to the boarding area, boarding the plane and taking your seat, all the while staying nice and relaxed...imagine waiting for everyone else boarding and the plane being secured...staying nice and comfy and relaxed...and then the safety announcements, the stewards and stewardesses waving their arms about as they do....the taxi to the take-off point...still relaxed...and the noise of the engines as they get ready to accelerate for takeoff...and yet, you are still chilled out and enjoying the sensation...and the feeling as the plane picks up speed and the front wheels lift off...relaxed...deep, slow breaths...as you feel the plane take to the air...free from the ground, banking slightly and gaining height...and then levelling off to really get your holiday under way and you are so relaxed you've drifted almost to sleep....
Hope that helps...and if you want any clarification feel free to PM me.

Go to the doctors and ask for some diazepam.
Oh yeah just take prescription drugs for something that the OP doesnt KNOW shes really scared of yet.
Its totally usual to think that one is scared of something, then when they do it wonder what the hell they panicked about! How many times have we all done that in our lives?
My dad doesnt like flying but he gets a very upset stomach at literally anything ( will throw up at seeing a dog poo etc) however he flies regularly, ( and throws up throughout) because the rewards of going to where your going will far outweigh him vomiting for a few hours.
How are your kids feeling about it, excited I bet.
I went to disney florida too and its brilliant. As I remember on the flight they showed advertorial footage that really got us all excited!!
Just enjoy it!! :j. and you simply must play plane bingo including
moaning about the price of drinks
buy some duty free - tip buy the bottles on the way back so you dont ahve to cart them about
pay attention to the stewards with thier escape procedure - you will have seen it a million times on telly
boot the chair in front of you, just the once:A
laugh at the piffling little "blankets" they give you :rotfl:
take slipper socks, something cosy - tip ! dont wear jeans , you want comfort on long haul flight and smirk to yourself at the fashionistas in stilletoes
Enjoy it, its an adventure:D:D
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast :beer:0 -
thanks for the great tips i definatly wont be drinking at all as im not a drinker it doesnt agree with me,to be honest im trying not to think about it but when i do i feel sick inside, the main thing whats worrying me is the taking off and landing i think i'll be ok when its in the air, well i hope i will,
kids are really excited its ds birthday the day before so he thinks hes having a party on the plane he's going to be a bit dissapointed but prob excited so he'll soon forget, ive got them lots to do like colouring and drawing books, stickers books, top trumps etc so they'll be busy, ive got some books for me im going to have to decide which 1 to take now though

I agree- the plane is simply a bit of early adrenalin checking for thos erides you're going on in Disney.
I didn't fly till my mid twenties, and when I did it was a flight to Brussels then on to Luxembourg.
First plane was fine, found take off and landing very thrilling, but the second one, when we were in the minibus to get to it I was laughing at the little twin propellor ones and said to DH..haha look at those, I didn't think they still had those....yup, you guessed which plane my next flight was on... But that was alright too! We hit a little bit of turbulence, but that's only like going over a hill on a road in a car, you don't move, just your tummy has a hiccup feeling.;)
For someone who used to be scared of heights to have flown in a helicopter, 9 seater plane, hot air balloon, a jumbo jet, airbuses, and even had a flying lesson in a 2 seater plane, I can tell you which one is the least exciting to travel in...you're going to be on one next Monday.;)
I can assure you that it's the fear of the unknown you're worried about. Once you know it's a breeze you'll get over your fears and realise how boring sitting in a flying bus for 8 hours or more really is. The good thing is it's taking you to Disney ! Have a wonderful time, the flight will be fine, and when you come back , remember to come back and tell us how sheepish you feel now you know it's nothing to get worried about.:D

ps - wear shoes that can be loosened, some people's feet can get a bit swollen on long flights.
Comfy clothes are the order of the day too,and you'll probably need a pair of trousers with an elasticated waist for on the way back too- because of the portion sizes of food in the U.S. - not many people come back with waistbands that aren't a bit tighter than before they left.;)
As another poster said, drink plenty of water and grab an aisle seat - it keeps you going to the loo which keeps you moving around a bit, and keeps you hydrated. If you have one, take a game for nintendo DS that you like too and take it in turns with the kids to play - it helps the time pass more quickly.
The kids should get a little kids goodie bag of some sort to keep them occupied, most airlines do this.Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19
