My top tip would be to request a seat on the plane as far back as you can get, because a recent study into aviation fatalities found that planes never reverse into mountains. :)

Just remember your death will be very fast. Possibly 300mph+ fast.

If the fear of flying could seriously impact anyones upcoming holiday, I would seriously recommend considering this:

It could be the best £200 you ever spent.

Keep an eye on the cabin crew and don't worry about anything until they start looking worried!!!!!

Very good point. I was on a flight in an electric storm, lots of lightning, rain, the aircraft was bumping around a lot, it was incredibly scary, even the grey haired cabin crew looked worried. We landed safely and the pilot said it was a very rare situation and the chances of it happening again were extremely unlikely.

When i was younger i loved flying - now i hate it! as richardw said above, i had one time when there was a lightning storm below us, could see the lightening and the plane was shaking and i was loving it. Now i think i would pass out!

When i take off i get my boyfriend to sing and i sing along. It helps take my mind off it cos you gotta keep singing. I look an !!!! but i just have to sing to keep my mind off it, then if i get scared again i sing again. Try it, (quietly!) ha

    good luck!

I love flying but obviously not all people do.

I would say definately take your ipod, play it loud so you can't hear the noises. Some of them sound strange but they really are all ok but best to get one of the bits out the way.

As others say, just watch the cabin crew, if they start to worry thats when I do, if they don't I don't.

But like I say, I love flying, off for my first lesson in the first week of september.

I used to have to be comatose before I got on a plane, but strangely over the years my fear has subsided and I enjoy the the landing and takeoff.

Flying longhaul is incredibly boring, but on flights don't be worried about getting out of your seat and walking around. Its totally expected and it can be quite calming.

One thing I have noticed about transatlantic flights is that on the way back it can be very bumpy as the planes try to fly in the jet stream. Just be prepared for that, its perfectly normal and the airlines so it to save on fuel

First time i flew i asked the stewardess how often do planes crash.

    She said "Only once Sir!"
