  • thank you so much for your replies, well were back in one piece!
the way there i was terrified,it didnt help that i was sat behind my family with two strangers next to me,i could have cried, the flight wasnt that bad,the take off was worse than i had imagined,i also didnt think you were cramped in as much as you were, the flight went well not much turbulance, when we approached orlando (i looked out of the window) which i shouldnt have done, the plane was acting wierd like when you go over a hill and your stomach turns, this happened loads of times and we finally landed i thought we were going to crash, when we landed everyone on the plane was clapping and cheering
    the breathing definatly helped
on the way back i knew what to expect so it wasnt so bad, although the turbulance was dredfull and we were sat together which was much better we were sat against the toilets so we could recline without someone moaning but you could feel every bump/knock and they sounded even worse.

Theres no dollar sign on piece of mind
    This Ive come to know...
So if you agree have a drink with me, raise your glasses for a toast

But..... would you do it again?

My husband HATES flying but he wants to go to the places we fly to more than he doesn't want to fly (if that makes sense!)
Like anything in life, it's a compromise.

OTOH, I have a friend who hates flying so much that she just won't do it, and her family holiday in Europe and drive to their destination every year.

Hope the holiday was worth the stress of the flight ( I'd guess, being Orlando, that it definitely was)

  • the holiday was fab very hot and sweaty weather not like it is here when its hot which shocked me,this was our first time abroad so everything was new to us,the disney parks and universal was great the kids loved it they were just so tired all the time, also the best thing was shopping it amazed me how cheaper it was than here, got some bargains:D to fetch home
i would definatly go back i suppose the flight was worth it,but i think id do a lot of things different,as i think we wasted a lot of money on park tickets etc as we didnt do all of them, and we'd go on our own as we went with oh's family ;)

i'm 6ft 5, so i know what it is like.... if you're crammed into a 31inch pitch seat, it is awful... thankfully, on 10 tatl trips (so 20 flights), i've only ever had to endure 31inch pitch twice... i normally blag a bulkhead or exit row, and sometimes i've been lucky enough to get 3 or 4 middle seats to myself, so i've been able to stretch out...
  • im 5ft 9 so it was cramped!
my oh is about 6ft 2,so he was worse than me
another thing i noticed was my feet they swelled right up,is this normal?
and when we got home after our flight back my legs felt like they were going to explode,a really strange sensation, and my feet swelled again??

The most likely cause is inactivity and allowing blood and fluid to collect at the ankles.... Not normal, not uncommon but potentially dangerous .... However as it would border on giving medical advice, try googling the condition as it may well be due to medication.... Also google "DVT Long Haul" :)

Before I flew long-haul for the first time I was advised by a friend and colleague, who had previously been a flight attendant, to drink lots of water during the flight, avoid alcohol, tea and coffee (which dehydrate) and to get up and walk around every hour (well, after drinking all that water you'll need to get up anyway!;) ).
I've done this every time I've flown since and (touch wood) I've never suffered from swollen feet/ankles.:T
