What amazed me about Aldi is the non-food range they stock. In my local store I've seen everything from computers and DVD players to pneumatic pavement drills and cement mixers. Wonder how many people just popped in for a loaf of bread and then had to explain to their partner why they needed to dig the pavement up!

I had this pine tree in my garden that had grown until it was starting to hide the light form the attic, so I got out the hand saw - then on my next trip to Aldi, I found they were doing an electric chain saw for 40 quid. That tree is all sawn logs now! (Or ash - we have an open fire...) :j

    Other recommendations (things I like):
Dog food - tinned 'Troy' and dry 'Healthy Balance Complete'
Tinned soup - I like Cream of Chicken, ditto Tomato, ditto Mushroom - all good
    Alcafe Rich Roast coffee granules
    Chicken Kievs
Booze - 'Napoleon' XO brandy, gin, Ile La Forge red wine, Ballycastle Irish cream (mix 50/50 with the brandy to give what I call a Bally Fortress!), 'Glen Orin' blended highland malt scotch, etc. etc. etc.
    'Silver Spring' carbonated water
    I like the 'Greenvale' butter

    ...

Basically, I start at Aldi, then go to Morrison's for what tAldi doesn't stock (e.g. unsliced granary bread and non-diet tonic) then if there's anything left on the list, go to Sainsbury's.

But for fresh meat, I go to the market and the local butcher.

Has anyone tried the bread mixes from lidl? They have a few different ones. I'm going to borrow the mil's bread maker this weekent before i splash out and buy my own, so was wondering what the mixes were like.

I have sued a couple of them and they are fine, I like the Italian style one in particular.

I use their soya milk in my tea in work - just as good as so good IMO.

    Cloudy lemonade - 35p
    Freeway diet coke - 39p

    Hi
I'm off to Lidl's and thought I'd let everyone know what's on my shopping list:

    Cheese Straws / Hearts
Cloudy Apple Juice (was on offer!)
    Budweiser
Peanuts - normal and Honey Roasted
Pizza from chiller cabinet - changed recently in my store - just over £1 now but really good, esp if you add a few of your own ingredients
    Emmental, Parmesan, Camenbert
Pull on Nappies - £3.64 and really good (not for me!)
Early Grey Teabags 49p for 25
    Strawberry Jam
    Chocolate Spread
    Premium Chocolate with Hazelnuts
Their version of Jaffa Cakes - better than original!

In fact, everything that will make me even fatter than I already am!
The rest I get in Morrisons or Somerfield as I find Tesco really expensive!
Veg and meat from local market - much cheaper and better quality!

Will post this afternoon if there are any good deals!

Prawn crackers, big 100g bag in Lidl, 39p instead of 59p. (18% prawn compared with 14% for Waitrose and only 3% for Sharwoods, which also contain MSG!)

I'm a bit of a shortbread nut and have to say that the shortbread fingers in Lidl are as good as any I have tasted.

Just look at the ingredients; flour, butter (31%), sugar and salt. Thats it! Perfect and only 49p.
