I have been surprised at some of the comments about Lidl bananas. I have been eating them for years and have never noticed them to have a shorter life than from elsewhere.
Occasonally I find that they are bruised badly but this is rare and then I just nip nextdoor and top up from Aldi, at a higher price.
When buying I pick through the bunches and don't take any with bruises. I also choose some green ones so that they last for at least a week. Elementary really and a small time penalty for the large price advantage.
As for freezing I am sure that that would be impractical but will try freezing one to see the effect. The the labels on the fruit are often well known brands and will have been transported in the same way as rival supermarkets.
if i had known then what i know now

Having tried quite a lot of stuff recommended on this thread my Lidl favourites (based on price, taste or both) are:

    Magnum type ice creams
Chocolate and coffee premium 1L ice cream tubs
    Soft cheese (flavoured)
    Mozzarella
    Camembert
    Potato salad
    Coleslaw
    Amanie individually wrapped choc bics
    Schogetten Chocolate (not tiramisu)
    Mini choc bars 5x40g
Coffee chocolate (when they have it)
    Nuts
    Bagel chips
    Ready to bake ciabatta
    Dried pasta
    Vegetable juice

Vegetables vary but can be good and very cheap eg huge box of rocket for 69p, bag of spinach 56p, avocado 23p, aubergine 39p. Or did I hit them on a specially cheap day???

    Also....

    Perfect 5 dishwasher tablets
    Sandwich bags
    Freezer bags
Q10 hand cream in gold/red tube (tried the Q10 moisturisers and whilst they were OK I have gone back to good old Nivea)

Someone highly recommended the frozen pizza (mozzarella/tomato). I thought it was awful, very false tasting!!

Picked up a flyer in my local Lidl this morning. From Thursday 5th April, they are doing Motorola Razr V3 mobiles for £59.99 (unlocked, sim free)

    Lidl favs in our house:

    Coleslaw
    Cherry Jam
    Chocolates
German xmas gingerbread biscuits (Hansel and Gretel biscuits we call them!)
    Ham
Tinned Herrings (the gravlax sauce ones are great)
Veg - if you get there early enough
Multivitamins - same spec as Centrum with Lutein for just £2.69 for 100 tablets!

I've tried the disposable ones, and they are fine - mind you, my legs might not be as sensitive as your face :D

We buy 75 per cent of our food & drink from Lidl. Highly recommend:

Most of the veg, esp when they have special reductions
    wild rocket 69p
    spinach 59p
    ciabatta olive bread 49p
premiere ice cream choc & cappichino 1.49
lurpak 1.94 although was on offer for 1.49
    French Brie 74p
    parmigiano 1.85
    Route 66 (marmite) 1.29
    Grnd Coffee *2 2.29
    Honey 1.55
    Egg spaghetti 39p
Bordeaux 2.64 (drinkable for the money)
    Paper hankerchiefs *16 99p

I was a bit put off the place at first, well its not waitrose, but our shopping bill has been slashed. Our branch doesn't have baskets but are quite relaxed about ppl loading up their own bags and then un-packing them onto the till. That way I always know I'm buying no more than my bag will carry.

Unfortunately there is no Aldi near us, but I do remember getting some great Belgium monestary style beer at one recently.

    Cheers
