  • jus been converted to trying these shops. have a few aldi stores and a lidl store near where i live. after looking at the recommendations i went out and bought a couple bits and pieces.
    ALDI: do buy:
-ladies sensitive shave gel (99p and leaves my legs and other bits soft and silky smooth!!)

    LIDL: do buy:
-iseree cleansing facial wipes (the sensitive and dry skin ones are the best ever.they leave my face soft and smooth but still cleansed and refreshed.also soooo cheap at 79p)

im also looking for a shampoo made by Aldi. its called coconut and keratin and its for dry and damaged hair. iv tried two aldi stores near where i live and i cant find it!!if any one can find it will they please let me no asap?!?

have since found a couple other bits and pieces tht are well worth trying::

    ALDI: do buy
-shower cream (almond and milk) leaves me soft and smooth all over.
-pretty boxes of tissues. all kinds of designs and look sooo stylish in my bedroom
-shampoo (pink one) gives me tht herbal essences hit for a quarter of the price

    LIDL: do buy
-mini mars bar and milky way copies (didnt last v long)
-mini jaffa cakes (lasted all of 10 mins~)
-holdups and knee highs. (they dont seem to ladder like all the other ones iv tried!!!)

im a definate convert to these stores now. i cant believe i can get my basics (cleanser, shower cream, shampoo etc) for mere pennies!!!!!!

after putting down lidl (basically being a snob!) i finally went back this week after reading allt he posts. the last time i went was about 5 years ago - walked in and walked straight back out again as it was vile. however it seems that much has changed. so bought some bits to try. looking forward to trying the olive oil and wine (not together) suitably impressed. !!:T

Chilled Chicken Jalfrezi/Korma/Tikka Masala Curry with Rice at Lidl (NOT THE FROZEN ONE)

Supplied to them by NOON FOODS who also supply Waitrose and sell curries under the Bombay Brasserie brand...I've personally not tasted a better ready meal type curry...

I've had the Lidl pasta ready meals which are brilliant - I had a spaghetti carbonara one. Nice simple ingredients list too, real stuff like cream and not packed with additives. I'll have to try their curries now. (Last time I was in there they were heavily reduced, should have picked some up).

Aldi cheese straws beat everybody, including Waitrose, in an Observer taste test, and are really buttery.

    Lidl:
Olive oil I think the best you can buy, regardless of price.
    Coleslaw
    Ham (the proper stuff)
    Salami, chorizo, bratwurst
    Hard Italian cheese
Chilled chocolate mousse (not always available)
    Jars of peppers and gherkins
    Multi-fruit multi-vitamin juice in cartons

These are so good that I'm prepared to queue in a shop that has never ever had more than one till open.

Went to lidl's last night. With the weather good at the moment and forcasted for the weekend, we will be getting out the BBQ.

Bought the Moorland 1/4lb Burgers, They are on offer at £1.29 for 8! i know it's not the healthest option but these boys are massive and taste great! & keep their size when cooked.

I haven't tried the Aldi ones but that description could certainly apply to the Lidl ones too - really buttery and cheesy.

I always buy Aldi cling film, by far the best I have tried. Lidl jars of fruity "teas" can give Whittards a run for their money and are only 99p. Going to put the kettle on now!

This is my first post, so I hope it goes ok. I have been shopping at Lidl, Aldi and Netto for about 4 years now. I agree with most of what has been said on this thread (which is very interesting, if a bit long!). One thing I have noticed is that some items have a "rock bottom" price regardless of where you shop - Tescos, Morrisons, Lidl or Aldi. Things I have noticed this with are: baked beans, UHT skimmed milk, flour, sugar (same price everywhere!) and chopped tomatoes - if they go up in price in one shop, they go up everywhere. I suggest that you buy these in bulk in Tescos and get the points and shop at Aldi, Lidl etc for other cheaper items. Peppermint tea was a lot cheaper in Lidl but recently the price has gone up in Lidl and come down in Tesco. As other people have said, the half price fruit and veg can be good, (my husband bought a juicer and it was very good for this), cheese, cereals, jam, olive oil, crips, biscuits and chocolate are good value in Lidl.

As far as their special offers are concerned we have bought a cordless mouse (cheaper than anywhere at the time and it is still working fine), tandem bike pole, bike lunch bags, DIY tools, I have small feet and got an excellent pair of children's boots for £5! I have also bought small items as stocking fillers for my daughter - a set of paintbrushes and shaped post-it notes. I bought a horse and foal set as a present for my daughter's friend and it was her favourite present! All these from Lidl. We are not as close to an Aldi or Netto but we have bought a combination oven/microwave/grill for £64 from Aldi earlier this year and it is great! The specials are well worth looking at.

    Happy hunting!

I've just started experimenting with Lidls/Aldi products. I find the pastrami at Lidls excellent and much cheaper then at Tescos or Sainsburys, about a pound difference I think. Also the slices are thicker!:D Love the Itailian hams as well. The fruit spreads and their red label tea are good too. Still getting used to Aldis but their small cube boxes of tissues are only 69p compared with 98p in Tescos today for their own brand stuff.
