well in lidl we buy the 100% beef quarter pounders, they are fantastic tasting and have no added carp in them, brilliant buy. i am very wary of added preservatives/colours etc.
in aldi we buy the pre cooked ham pieces, again no carp in that, gorgeous tasting too!
also the bread at 28p per loaf is great! much cheaper than branded stuff

  • First post on MSE - I felt compelled to write after reading the newsletter link to the bestbuys.

I can't beleive Lidl cider got four votes and Aldi cider one vote, the Aldi cider wins hands down in my book. Try it, or better still do a comparison test - they're only around £1.50 a bottle. The Lidl one tastes of chemicals. the Aldi one of apples and is amazingly refreshing. I say this as a Lidl man through and through (not as someone who drinks copious amounts of zider) :)

Speaking as a Herefordian and therefore with ample access (and exposure) to many different ciders - I don't know how they do it for the money. Lovely stuff! Roll-on the Summer!

Also getting my vote are the Aldi Lasagna RM and their Crumpets.

    My Lidl favourite's are -
Mars Ice Creams - very addictive. They are 9 for £1.49 in Lidl, I saw them in Sainsbury's last week - 4 for £1.95!!! Although they were on BOGOF.
    Bread
    Maribel jam
    Frying Steaks
    Orange juice
Lunch box cartons of apple juice
    Curry sauces
    Lemonade

    Don't buy -
    The thin oven fries
Veg soup - looks like sick
    Toothpaste

    Update 14 Febuary

This thread has now been turned into an updated article. Click here to read the What's hot and what's not at Aldi/Lidl/Netto article.

    Hi Martin

I've read the article, and I like how you've summarised this thread into a single table.

I do have one suggestion though - it would be good if we could see the total number of votes for each item as well as the final rating. At the moment it's difficult to see if (for example) Netto's Ale is rated 2 because:
    a. only 2 people have rated the beer, and both liked it, or
    b. 10 people rated it, and 6 liked it but 4 did not.

Perhaps put the number of votes in brackets eg. Netto Ale: 2 (2) ?
