  • If you are in France, you cannot do better for their German Lager and various French wines. The lager is about 25p a can and is a quality product!! The Gervurtztraminer wine is really really good also. Their hamburgers, fizzy "freeway orange" also stand out.... the Sangria is also great, but you probably need sunshine for that!! Sadly we can't get a lot of these in GB, as the taxes knock them on the head!¬ But if you're going across to stock up, then I advise going to Lidl before any of the specialist "drinks wholesalers".... save pounds 'n pounds n'pounds! :T

I go to lidl on a weekly basis to do my shopping. Here are some of the things which I recommend:

    Tinned Salmon fillets
    Tinned mackerel fillets
    Cheese
Yoghurt - especially the natural one
    Frozen salmon fillets
Frozen fish fingers - all fillets and really nice
Chicken nuggets - again these are whole bits of chicken not minced up muck
    Anything chocolate
    Mince pies
    Wine
    Beer
    Cleaning products by W5
    Cleaning products by Adritt
    Fruit juice

I would not buy their baked beans or spaghetti hoops as they taste odd to me, but that is just personal preference.

    anything apart from:

    tinned salmon
    baked beans
    frozen chicken portions
entire chicken: you can buy one frozen from iceland for 2.5 instead of 3.8 at Lidl
    fake shreddies

regarding Targa computers from Lidl. I think that comment was slightly unfair. I do not see the difference between buying a PC from Lidl compared to Woolworths, Dixons, Comet, Currys, Office World, Staples or any other high street shop whose sole business is not computers.

Having worked in IT for twenty years, and had to clean up machines after friends have had their machines "fixed" by local experts, seen the sort of dis-service that the Dixons Retail Group re-trained toaster salesmen in PC World give, and seen the strengths and weaknesses in Dell, IBM, Toshiba, etc etc, I can honestly say that the supplier is more often than not irrelevant.

The only company I ever recommend those who aren't tech savvy to, are Evesham Micros - not so much for the price or reliability, but because of their customer service - I have found that they will help you when you screw up installing something that you bought from some-one else on an Evesham PC - no doubt there are those who have also had bad service, but generally I've found that they have helped people.

As far as all the other suppliers are concerned, it comes down to the fact that computers are like cars - the more crap you add to them, the slower they go, the more juice they use and the more random / unreliable they become - so if you buy a cheap and cheerful PC that does what you want / need, don't start adding layers and layers of things that you don't need, and then wonder why it doesn't work like wot it used to.

So if you want to go into a big name dealership and be screwed for changing a grommet, or into a local garage and hear the sharp intake of breath between his teeth as he thinks about all the things he can tell you are wrong with the car because you wouldn't know any better - treat your PC however you want.

If not - treat your PC nicely and it will keep on working for ages - no matter how cheap or expensive it was, and no matter how well the supplier or brand name is known.

  • Lidl -

Coleslaw is better than anyone else's.
Drycure back bacon fries leaving fat in the pan - not milky gunge!
Dessert fruit sauces - half the price of Morrisons with a higher fruit content, but they seem to have vanished at the moment.
    Smoked Salmon.
    Parma Ham (or equivalent).
Otherwise, I endorse other recommendations, especially luxury muesli, parmesan,

    Don't like - the flour.

Fun shopping to see the weekly bargains in non-food items.

What about electricals from Aldi. portable dvd for instant. is it worth buying?
These are definitely good value for money. I bought a new PC there last time they were on offer. It is superb, and would have cost over twice the price to get anywhere near the spec at Dell. All electricals have great guarantees - usually 2 or 3 years.
Can also recommend all the boy toys, drills, sawbenches, etc etc. Not for you girlies but great value for your menfolk. My local jobbing builder buys lots of his tools at Aldi, and uses them to make a living, can't get a better recommendation than that can you?

One thing I forgot about Lidl's was the pasatta , if you don't know what that is its like a cross between tomato puree and tinned tomato juice in a box , I 1st came across it in spain where they don't sell a lot of tinned tomatos - although Lidls spain now done some.#

It makes great sauce base for bolognese and curries etc

quite agree with comments about tesco value stuff - marketed to put you off and look like a cheapskate , and inferior quality to lidl. aldi and netto

re the baked beans comments , my wife likes the lidl ones and says that they taste different because they have less sugar in

netto does have good bread sometimes as does aldi , lidl not as good

However, I will not buy the fruit from there, as a friend who had worled there said apparently it is all irradiated

I think your friend is mistaken

it is illegal to sell irradiated foods without labelling and only certain items

    "Irradiated food

Irradiation can be used to kill bacteria that cause food poisoning, such as salmonella, campylobacter and E. coli. It can also delay fruit ripening and help stop vegetables such as potatoes and onions from sprouting. In the UK, only correctly labelled irradiated herbs, spices or vegetable seasonings can be traded.

  • Buy baked beans from Netto - better than heinz

Don't buy baked beans from Lidl - They are the worst thing on this earth!

    I LOVE LIDL BAKED BEANS!
I ALWAYS USED TO BUY HEINZ BUT HAVE NOW BEEN CONVERTED TO LIDL ONES AND THEY ARE ONLY 9p - bargain as far as i'm concerned!!
    Am I the only one??
  • I had a halogen floor lamp from Lidl and first time I had it on for about an hour it "popped". Anyway, I phoned the freephone number (which connected me to Germany FREE) and they sent a new bulb and shade. Still didn't work and dimmer switch was hot, so back on freephone - they sent me a new dimmer switch which my brother changed for me. Still didn't work, so back again. Couple of weeks later I got a whole new lamp - AND my brother has managed to get the first one working (not his fault before, honest). Woowoo!! :D :j
