    Not too bad, thanks.

    Yourself?

Is your carnival one of these carnivals usually held in October/November that has floats and usually followed around by the fairground?

    Hi guys.

I suffered, quite severely, from depression for quite a long time. It pretty much took over my life and caused me to push away the people I love most :( It's only now- in hindsight- that I realise I was pushing away the people who could most help me.

I'm very lucky in that I now have my girlfriend by my side at every step and I think the best thing any of us can do is find someone to trust and confide in- mother, father, brother, sister, girlfriend, boyfriend etc.

Talking knowing you're not going to be judged really helps x

    Welcome

Glad to hear you now have an understanding Girlfriend. Does she have a sister? :D

I think the majority of us have trouble finding someone to confide in and trust, so don't let go of your good lady for anything you are offered. (Unless you are offered a second good lady and your current one doesn't mind sharing :D )

We don't talk about our problems all the time. We suffer from depression, and sometimes we like the support and understanding of people who know what it feels like. A lot of us don't have supportive or understanding partners, and sometimes it nice to just not feel 'alone' in this. We don't post miserable posts elsewhere (well, I do sometimes, but thats cos I'm allowed). This is a 'safe haven'. It'd be a shame to lose that.

We all have varying degrees of depression. We also have personality disorders, anxiety disorders, severe depression with pyschosis and delusions and all manner of things which 'normies' don't understand. Its nice to have a place where we can just 'be' without fear of critism. I don't think you'd find any mental health professional who doesn't think its a good thing to form friendships and talk to other sufferers.
I don't think we need to defend ourselves to people who criticise or disagree with us, they don't seem able to see our point of view or needs, so wondering why I am wasting my time in trying.

I feel it fuels their defensiveness, which is a weapon a very insecure person uses to shift the blame onto others. Also, their defensiveness rears up when someone shows their flaws. I see it a lot in adolesecents, be it age or state of mind. It hinders a lot of business in this country and it is great when you get a company/person who seems to really care and be able to do their job properly. Maturity is worth a lot and goes a long way.

We get enough of that tough stuff in the outside world and if it worked would we be talking on this thread now? Would they be so harsh with someone who had a physical disability? They would look really good saying to a person in a chair, you bring it on yourself and get up and walk, you are only there coz you feel sorry for yourself.

I thought the old way worked just fine, it felt safer and we do share positive news too.

    PS.
I do not want to get into any more nasty situations on this thread and realise there are many approaches but if there are any differing opinions then we should respect each other and not post attacking threads to each other about it. We do not want this thread to be closed down!

We are all in the same boat and a little understanding goes a long way!

Nothing you have said to me has been helpful and useful to me. Can you tell me the point in posting this reply except to be nasty to someone who is feeling low?

Thank you Dippychick for driving me away, you have succeeding in making me feel very very lousy - I presume that was your intention - well done!!!

I'm not sure who Dippychick is and frankly I don't care who they are as they are a nobody to me, and I don't know their purpose of coming in to the thread and posting what they did. I guess they were looking for a reaction, because it's easy on a keyboard and not face to face where the reply would be more than a little debate on a messageboard.

I think, as with anything in life, people have uneducated views on things. We are all guilty of it, but some need the attention more.

No point in being driven away by someone on a messageboard. They were just posting for a response, hence the taxi comment at the end. It was put there so they can come back later and see the negativity and problems their post may have caused. Don't give them their cheap thrill and carry on posting.

CCStar - fancing setting up a 'Grumpy Old Women with Depression' thread?

I'm just having one of those days, everything is annoying me!

    lol

Everything can seem rather annoying when you are tired, and boy did I get some tired days when I was pregnant.
