I can take criticism if it is put in an empathetic way and from someone I know well (as best you can on here) and respect.
If it is clumsily delivered by someone I don't know too well, it can come across in an offensive or cold way. Some people need tough love but it have never worked for me, my rational side can see what they are saying but because the delivery is so harsh, I feel the person is being disrespectful and rude. I tend to close down to any good intention they may have and retreat into my shell as a result.
I think most people are sensitive to this. Sometimes people can be more sensitive about this more when there is a lot of other sh*t or sh*tty people in their lives bringing them down.
Ironically, I find the type that come across in an abrasive and uncaring way, tend to get offended, act oversensitive and have defensive attitudes far more than people who are more considerate. They are blooming hard work and make it very hard to feel any compassion or respect for them! Like BB says, when you feel low, the reserves of understanding for others can be limited, especially if they are inarticulate. An average day in my life:hello: :mad: :coffee::coffee::coffee::T:rotfl: :rotfl:

You said that just telling someone with depression to pull themselves together would not work (and it certainly doesn't!!!) and yet that is what you more or less implied in your post to CCStar. I don't want to get involved in an argument but I have to say that the particular post took me aback somewhat as being very unsympathetic and not very understanding of how she feels.
Its very hard to "calm down" and to give people anything when you are suffering with depression. Its hard enough just keeping it together at all let alone try to see things from other people's point of view!
Point taken. I wasnt trying to be unsympathetic or sympathetic for that matter. When things are just written you miss out on so much of the meaning compared with speaking directly to someone. I was making an observation that CCStar seemed very angry with a lot of people. Getting upset with people may well be easy when you are depressed but it doesnt do you much good. Also how do you know the person you are calling an idiot or buffoon is not in the same boat as you. They could be depressed too. It isnt being very sympathetic to their feelings either.Who I am is not important. What I do is.0 -

I agree with this. I sometimes read back a text I have sent and realise that it comes across completely different to how I actually meant it. When you are talking to someone face to face or on the phone you can get so much meaning from their tone or facial expressions and, of course, this doesn't come across in a text or an online post.
As I said, though, when you are suffering badly with depression you just can't take onboard what anyone else is going through because your own head is full fit to bursting. Its like a man with 2 broken legs trying to walk someone across a road (sorry about the comparisons again!!! )0 -
:hello: everyone. hope you're alright xxBe who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind.

I'm just having one of those days, everything is annoying me!Stay-at-home, attached Mummy to a 23lb 10oz, 11 month old baby boy.0 -
Evening all.
I have had such a productive, great day today.
I got all my cleaning done, set up my mini photography studio and sorted clothes out for charity. Gemma is back today so I'm having fun talking to her and I'm talking to Sam too.
I'm having fun in The Arms and I'm sitting here with a wonderful cup of tea.
The best day I have had in ages, and I have had a genuine smile on my face all day! Woo!
