your deposit should be protetcted by one of the three tenancy deposit schemes. The letting agent should have told you which scheme and give you information on how you reclaim your deposit at the end of your tenancy.

    see here: http://www.direct.gov.uk/en/TenancyDeposit/index.htm

    The OP is in Scotland.
That link is only applicable to England and Wales

Presumably boilers work the same north of the border :D

On the basis that it appears you haven't found the gas meter yet, the boiler may not be working because the gas is turned off. Are there any other gas appliances like a gas cooker in the property? If so, do they work? If not, or you haven't any other applicances try looking at the following link

    http://www.energylinx.co.uk/questions.htm#43

Find out who your gas supplier is and ask them where the meter is or ask the LL. It may have been turned off, hence boiler no worky ;) .

Funnily enough, my heating went on about 30 mins ago. I'm wondering if the LL was actually in before I got back from Tesco earlier and sorted it. Now I just need to work out how to turn some of the radiators off :D i know, I'm hopeless!

Thanks for all the help everyone :)

And now it's back off and I have no hot water again and the green light that was on isn't on anymore. What on earth is going on!

It's possible but very unlikely that someone has wired the entire boiler up to a timer so that the boiler itself is only powered for certain periods of the day.

Although this is unlikely it is possible. But, and please don't take offence, it is more likely that you are doing something wrong, mind you, I can't think what this might be.

It would be a good idea to take some photos of the boiler and all controls and electrical connections and upload them here. The better the photos, the easier it will be to sort the problem out.

As you might have guessed from my user name, I install and repair these things for a living and I don't have a clue what's going on with yours but I'm pretty sure that it's something simple.

I probably am, but I'm following the guide book, thing is the controls in the guide book are slightly different from my ones. Same type but slightly different.

I will take some pictures tonight, will be on my phone but I will try and get them as clear as possible.

Are you on prepayment meters? Just a thought. If you are maybe the credit has run out on the gas?

I don't know, we can't find the meter. But I doubt it, and it starting up last night for a while...

Phoned the LA again and they have been trying to phone the LL who isn't answering his phone. I'm going to go nuts at someone very soon.
