Apparently conkers are meant to repel spiders. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0

My MIL swears by this - she has two conkers in every doorway and windowsill (either side) and says it has seriously reduced the number she gets. Hasn't completely eliminated them though, not sure there's anything you do that will stop them altogether.0 -
oooh im gonna have to go and rummage around the cemetry across the road (gosh that sounds awful!), theres loads of trees in there that produce conkers. Usually I can just about tolerate spiders if they are no bigger than 2cm, I just whip out the hoover but the one I saw today was practically a tarantula! *shivers*0

Yes, I second the idea of the conkers - my DD has them in her bedroom as she isn't keen of spiders, and works well0

My mum used to live in a house that backed onto a woodland and she had loads of really big spiders coming in. She bought those electronic pest repellents that you plug into wall sockets and they make a noise outside of human hearing rang to drive away mice but they actually got rid of the spiders too! Be warned tho - the first few days you will see loads as they come out of their hiding holes and make a dash for the exit!0

You'l have to wait awhile as they aren't really available at the moment, wrong time of the year, they do seem to work though.I get a few but not too many on the whole it depends on the weather I think.0 -
Yep horse chestnuts repell spiders - you can buy horse chesnut spray or something similar from like Betterware catalogues and the like.

Spiders are good even though I hate them. they are the only natural predators of the woodworm beetle. so if you catch one stick it in the loft or under the floorboards and tell it to get eating.Who I am is not important. What I do is.0

Spiders are the hoouse cleaners of the insect world. I love them.
If you get rid of them altogether you'll end up with more creepy crawleys.
Maybe you could work on your repulsion of them so you don't pass it on to your little girl.
Don't buy sprays, your little girl will be inhaling it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

Hi Trying2save,
These earlier threads have some ideas that may help:
Too many spiders
Do conkers keep away spiders??
I'll add your thread to the first link later to keep the suggestions together.
