Spiders come in this time of year for the warmth and to lay eggs for next year....on the positive side they eat the flies that also come into the house, seeking warmth. On the negative side they are really quick at making cobwebs!

In our house the cats eat them though, so we dont tend to have an issue......probably not very money saving investing in a cat to eat the fly (song about that isnt there lol) but they also catch the rats and mice through the winter and keep my feet warm!

    Mine too.

Only people who love cats know the luxury of fur-coated musical hot water bottles that never go cold!

  • Anybody know of a method to get rid of spiders please.

I am terrified of them since childhood...someone at school put one on my shoulder and it ran up my face...

I cannot go anywhere near them so I need something to stop them entering the house...hubby deals with them when he is home but he works all day and I am retired.....and no I do not want to spend all my days in the Library :rotfl:

I would put up a notice but don't think spiders can read...can they?....:D

Raid spray for when you see one, Indorex (household flea spray) from Vet will kill them - you spray it round skirting boards and entrances etc.

Also, ANTSTOP in a red squirty bottle from garden centres is amazing - it leaves a film which they pick up on their feet and it is taken into their nasty little bodies and kills them off before you get the chance to see them... hopefully!

    My preference, Raid and Antstop.

BTW I saw a giant one in a library once, which I had forgotten about until i read your post

    I've been Money Tipped!
Conkers. Put them in every room and by every entrance into the house. They repel spiders and it's proven.

I was thinking just the other day that i was going to put a post up for help on Spiders!

Our house is a spider magnet, when we first moved in i had a bath. When I was in the bath i looked around and found a few crawling on the wall and some dead ones floating in the bath. I cant relax in the bath now.

I found some under a towel in the bathroom as DH leaves them on the floor, argh! They freak me out.

We have massive ones in our garden so im hoping i can get rid of them for next summer :o

    GAH! Cease this awful talk!

I got so bad with worrying about if there were any lurking I actually bought one of the electronic spider repeller devices (got mine from Primrose London, just Google electronic spider repeller and you'll get a bunch of retailers). I've been quite hesitant to say whether it really works or not, because knowing my luck as soon as I say it works I will be invaded and attacked by giant spiders. However, *KNOCK WOOD*, there seems to be less of them about the place than there were.

    *checks about fearfully*

As for conkers, the person who recommended me the repeller device had given up on using conkers after not only seeing no difference with them, but actually finding a spider sitting on top of one of the conkers one day.
  • I use the red raid too, as I have a real problem with spiders. I regularly spray around the windows and air vents and I'm sure we get less now (crossed fingers!) I will also be getting some conkers though, the more spider deterrents in our house the better.
