  • Just wanted to say, please don't kill them with nasty chemicals! I am a complete arachnophob, but I just don't think that it is fair for me to kill them just because I have an irrational fear of them.

I have a spider catcher from Betterware or I put a glass over them (if they are on the floor) or creep past them and hope that they don't fall on me!

Ladies this time of year is spider season; the females spin giant webs and sit there waiting to be impregnated, and the males roam around trying to find aforementioned females. They make me feel sick. I can't go in the garden.

However my fabulous kitty is great at finding them. When he does hubby scoops them up and puts them out..except the the last poor unfortunate, that ended up with less legs that he started with..poor taste maybe but it couldn't run as fast to get away from hubby after that...
I have had many Light Bulb Moments. The trouble is someone keeps turning the bulb off :o

    Hi Everyone,

Cedar wood blocks: spiders don't like the smell. You can get some in P**ndl**d, with holes in to put them on coathangers.

They are also a moth repellant, but if you hang them around windows or airvents, where they get in, it'll put them off.

    Hope this helps, regards, Pud;)

I've got an electronic mouse repeller - seems to work on spiders too!

  • If you want an envriomentally friendly and animal friendly way to help get rid/ prevent them from getting in your house use lemon juice watered down with water in a spray. Spray it around all the edges, skirting, doors and windows. They dont like the citric acid.

This way you dont harm them or the enviroment.

  • I used to be terrified:eek: but cured my phobia by plucking up the courage to catch them in a glass and put them outside. Now I really don't mind them at all. I only put them outside because the kids are scared. Poor things only come in for the warmth. I'd let them stay if it wasn't for the kids lol.

Only thing I like in my house has two legs ,anything else stands no chance.I have conkers in the sitting room which get replaced every year and I also have a anti-spider spray which I bought from bettaware for £2.99 which seems to work a trat, failing that I'm afraid its my slipper brought smartly down on their head.I had a huge one on my curtain a few weeks ago and I have a long gripper type thing that I use for picking things up and closing my curtains that my DD bought me a few years ago.it gripped this monster and I dispatched it down the loo.

Conkers are not proven to work :rotfl: they don't work at all. It may make you feel better though.

Spiders perform a vital function, just remember without them, the flies and pests would get completely out of control in your garden and your house. And those pests can cause you problems, spiders can't.

And honestly, I mean I don't really care, it's your health, but those sprays you are spraying around, they are pretty nasty stuff, does it not seem a little odd to be making your families health worse, to be killing something that wouldn't harm you in the first place?

On the negative side they are really quick at making cobwebs!

tell me about it. When i was getting up the other day there was one between my wall and wardrobe making a nice new shiny web. It did look pretty though.

  • Poor spiders :-(

Can't help think that people are afraid of all sorts of things - dogs, cats, clowns etc, but we don't think it's ok to go after them with a hairspray flame thrower or poison or even a slipper :eek: Sorry, I know a lot of people on here are really phobic, but there has to be a better way :(

How about if those of us that like spiders buddy up with those that don't and then if a spider comes a knocking in the wrong house, we can send out a rescue party? :T
