Does anyone know where the big house spiders hide during the day time?
I had a huge one in my living room last night, went to get something to 'deal' with it and when I came back it was nowhere to be seen. I couldn't sleep properly last night because I knew it was somewhere in the house. I've had a look this morning and I can't see it. I know it's lurking somewhere...any ideas anyone?
  • Oh god I hate them. The ones this year have been HUGE. I was in the bathroom last week getting redy for work and felt a tickle in my trousers, thought it was a thread. Then another tickle.....pulled my trousers off faster than if I had David Beckham naked on the bed and a HUGE spider fell out. Arggghhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!

Then, there was one on the wall last night - it actually jumped off the wall and thudded as it hit the floor. That one got Death by Dyson.

Freaks of nature - all of them

I stil haven't found mine and I am dreading tonight because I know it's going to come back out again.
    Where is it hiding???
Is there any link between having carpets and more spiders? I've never had this many in a house before - it's making it so I can't even relax in my own home. I will put wooden floors or laminate down if that helps.

Spiders are horrendous - scare the !!!!!! out of me and my kids... I use something called Ant-Stop around the house, door sills and windows etc... They pick it up on their feet and it kills them - thank goodness.

When I use it properly we don't get many in at all - am really petrified of those tarantula type ones that run so fast across the floor - in fact I feel quite ill reading these posts

I once, having just moved into my house, ran round to my new neighbour to beg him to come and move one for me :o:o:o:o:o ewwwwwwwwwwwww nasty nasty nasty

raid fly/wasp spray kills them, they hide in cavity walls, under and behind units in your kitchen, under your sofa, on your curtains (the window side)anywhere!!

I have a cat that loves eating spiders. Loves them.

A big brute of one ran out from under the sofa the other night right by my feet. Unfortunately my screams alerted him to his mistake and he ran back under, but not before she'd spotted him.

The next morning I found four huge fat spider legs in the middle of the room and nothing else. Good old pusskins!! She must have sat there patiently waiting for the sod to come out and then crept up behind it and pounced!

There's been a few in my house recently that have needed shoeboxes to remove them as even a pint glass was too small to catch them.

I have goosepimples as I'm writing this :rotfl:

  • I am absolutely petrified of spiders and spend most of the summer dreading September/October time when all the giant house spiders reappear! This year I decided to try one of the ultrasonic/electromagnetic devices (I'm at the stage where I'll give aything a go!)- plugged it in a few weeks ago and (touch wood) not seen a single one since, even in the room they normally camp out in.

I know we're only just into the mating season so not getting too excited yet, but am really hoping it works - will report back in a few more weeks in case anyone else is interested! Could turn out to be the best £20 I ever spent :)

Just got a new place, and it has a lot more spiders in than I'd like, for a house only 10 years old! Two questions:

    1. There is ivy running up the house along both the living room and up to the bedroom windows. Should I rip this off?

    2. The insulation you can get, where they fill your walls with foam - will this help stop spiders getting into the house?

    Cheers :)

ps those spider catchers are an absolute god send - I don't like killing them, and to be honest getting them out via the spider catcher is a lot less gross than killing one and trying to get it outside anyway.

I'm sure other people with arachnophobia will agree with me that the whole pint glass thing really isn't an option :-)

    Hi all.
I have been using citronella oil around my flat as I was told that it repels spiders. WRONG! I came home this morning to be greeted by the biggest spider I have ever seen in my life- I nearly passed out!
Does anybody have any tips on how to get rid/ keep them out of my eyesight? I dont really want to use any chemical spray thingys as I have a 17month old DD and also pet fish.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated x
