  • Well, new house, new spiders!! We have moved into the country and so far have had some real whoppers. We do however have a lot of the "cellar spiders" so hopefully they will keep the evil big hairy ones at bay. We found a nest under the fridge and a huge egg sack, that was the first thing to go! The other night, I pulled the curtain over the front door closed and screamed as there was a HUUUUGE spider sat on it. Hubby managed to get it in a cup and put it in a hedge down the road - I worried that it might have a homing instinct

As it's conker season, I'm thinking of getting a few for round the house, as well as some essential oils. Aww, don't you just love autumn? Nights drawing in, cold setting in, and spiders coming to get you!

I normally don't mind spiders as hubby is usually around to 'rescue' me.
    BUT.....
He has just started a new job and is away from home Monday to Friday.
Yesterday I was sat on the floor sorting out the washing when a massive, huge, hairy spider came out my sons clothes that had been on the bathroom floor and ran across me.:eek:

I very bravely caught it after screaming and chucked it out the door. Son is even more banned from leaving clothes in the bathroom. :D

Last Autumn I put conkers around my skirting boards - made a HUGE difference - usually have 20+, that Autumn I had 4. So I'm going to stick to the conkers!
Also Betterware do a Spider Spray which is horsechestnut
 Could anyone advise me if conkers and horse chestnut are the same thing or different please. Also what are the nuts inside the green prickly round things that fall from the trees at the moment?
    Thanks.

I guess you should all be glad you don't wake up in the night to see this above your bed:

the horse chestnut tree produces conkers (the brown nut inside the green prickly shell)

I was settling down to a nice nights sleep the other night when all of a sudden a huge massive tarantula crawled from over the top of my blinds:eek:  . Well, i had to kill it didn't i cuz i couldn't sleep knowing that was prowling round to crawl over me in the night. So i got me croc (shoe) and went to smash its head in only the little !!!!!! decided "ha ha camnt catch me" and bggered off. This scared me even more so i opened the blinds to find the little sod hiding between them so i went to squish him again only it jumped out of my window (which is where id obviously come in) i've never shut a window so fast in my life!!!

oh and i've used to hairspray tequnique before in the bathroom... they end up really stiff!

In the hotel we stayed at in Cairns, there was a leaflet detailing what may be found in the room - with an explanation that, although unpleasant, such things are harmless.

We only saw one big spider in the rainforest. And from a distance. Being part of a tour group, we couldn't exactly run away screaming so inched past the thing. I'm told it's common for huntsmen to get into the space where the sun visor is in your car, so when you pull it down whilst driving .... one lands in your lap.

We had the same phobia about gigantic bugs, but didn't really see anything upclose, and really, in a rainforest, such things must be expected.
