  • I definately sympathise - i'm not a lover of spiders either.
Aparently having chestnuts around the house drives them away (never tried this myself but my nan swears by it!). I always have a big spider jar to hand or for emergencies you could always get the hoover out.

  • Not wishing to sound unsympathetic but be grateful you don't live in a house with a thatched roof! The spiders that plague me are HUGE.......i'm not that scared of them but when I see ones the size of my palm i get a bit girlie lol. I've tried everything but they still love my house.
My home is usually the House Buying, Renting and Selling Forum where I can be found trying to (sometimes unsucessfully) prove that not all Estate Agents are crooks. With 20 years experience of Sales/Lettings and having bought and sold many of my own properties I've usually got something to say ;)
    Ignore......check!
  • the hoover is no good!!! last night i hoovered up a massive beast of a spider, to find it running out of it hours later!!! i cant stand the creatures, they really freak me out!! tonight i killed one with a squirt of Cilit Bang and then sprayed it with Vanish foam carpet cleaner... it worked :)

I have bought a spider catcher off the internet and get DH to catch them for me and he takes them up the road to release them so they dont come back in!:D

Yesterday he found a spider in his shed that scared him - the size of a mouse he said:eek: he killed it with a blowtorch! I dont like killing anything but I think it was too big for the spidercatcher.
I hate this time of the year, there's always load of them about!
    Do what you love :happyhear

You MUST remember to block the hose once you've sucked it up. I usually leave it running for a few minutes afterwards as well to try and ensure it's snuffed it - though not sure if that actually works!

I have a dyson hoover and has a wee cover at the top of the hose, it looked like it came out of the bottom of the hoover, i ran it for a bit after sucking the horrible critter ad even hoovered some of the carpet....

bought some flea spray 2day and have sprayed everywhere fingers crossed this will work!! waiting on the JML pest repellant being delivered now!!

Can u believe the late night film on last night was ARACHNOPHBIA!!!!
  • OMG, I sympathise with you all. Just in the last few weeks these massive brown spiders keep appearing in our living room. The first time it happened I was feeding my newborn and saw it running towards me. I screamed the house down and OH thought there was something wrong with baby- needless to say he was less than impressed when he saw what the problem was! loads more have appeared since then in different sizes. They are horrible. Hubby keeps me going that they are stalking me cos I made him kill their leader that first night!
I am itching like mad thinking of them!

I have been known to knock on strangers doors to come and get spiders for me, have slept in the car with my dog because an enormous spider

I use Dethlac around outside doors which acts in the same way.
I also ring up 1 of my neighbours (as I cant loose sight of them once I see 1) and ask them if they can come and kill spider.
But the spiders round here seem to be getting wise and coming out when all my friends & neighbours have gone to bed !!!!

    Also can I ask
"WHAT IS DETHLAC AND WHERE IS IS SOLD" PLEASE ?
I have bought and own nearly everything that says it keeps spiders away and it doesnt work. I have this gadget that is suppossed to suck them up through tube but its more like a light breeze for the spider as someone else previously mentioned. Phone books are all piled up ready to get them !!!
I have spray called "no more spiders!" - do you think i could get my money back on this as use it everywhere all the time and still they appear ???
My fear of spiders is getting worse every year!!
I used to scream, but now I seem to be looking for them, then when im starting to relax a bit, they appear and catch me off guard.
Then my whole body and legs freeze,
I get goose bumps and start to panic (kind of panis attack/hyperventalate)
And if they are really big, I have even cried in the past when I have seen a spider, cause Im so scared

Which is always at night/when its dark !!!!
:confused:DOES ANY 1 ELSE KNOW WHY THIS IS ??

  • Does anyone know what those skinny legged spiders with teeny bodies who live in cupboards eat?? We have dozens, at least one per cupboard. I have no clue how to get rid. Their bodies swell when they escape and eat a fly or two but their legs are YEEEEUUUCH and almost invisible. Horrible things. I generally don't mind spiders and like another poster said, prefer them to flies - but these are yacky.
