I also ring up 1 of my neighbours (as I cant loose sight of them once I see 1) and ask them if they can come and kill spider.
But the spiders round here seem to be getting wise and coming out when all my friends & neighbours have gone to bed !!!!

    Also can I ask
"WHAT IS DETHLAC AND WHERE IS IS SOLD" PLEASE ?
I have bought and own nearly everything that says it keeps spiders away and it doesnt work. I have this gadget that is suppossed to suck them up through tube but its more like a light breeze for the spider as someone else previously mentioned. Phone books are all piled up ready to get them !!!
I have spray called "no more spiders!" - do you think i could get my money back on this as use it everywhere all the time and still they appear ???
I also freeze when I see a spider,
which is always at night/when its dark !!!!
:confused:DOES ANY 1 ELSE KNOW WHY THIS IS ??

http://www.dethlac.com/ Can't answer the rest though! Luce

I went to London Zoo to be hypnotised 'cause I was REALLY arachnophobic , I couldn't even see the top of a tomato without freezing and pics of them were a nightmare too. I ended up stroking a Mexican Red Kneeded Spider! The effect has worn off a bit but I can at least kill them. Part of the session was a talk from the Head Keeper. He said that spiders will run towards vibrations and like the dark. They usually go around the room but will cross it from one dark place to another.

    Still hate the blighters!
    I would if I could but I can't so I won't!

There have been big spiders this year. I don't normally get any and I got 2 huge ones (size of my hand) in about 4 days in the livingroom. I sprayed the skirting board with that fleaspray from the vets (used to be called Nuvan staykill but called something else now) and haven't seen any since. This thread has freaked me out a bit but I felt compelled to read it to the end just in case the master method for getting rid of spiders was in it - and to not feel too alone in my fear.

  • I really am scared of spiders and thought they only come into my house. I have had a big spider visiting every evening/night time. Why don't they give my place a break.I no longer stay down stairs once the sun has gone. I sleep in the kids bedroom because the other night I found a spider in my room.So far I have managed to kill them but I end up crying and just thinking about where it we reappear next if I don't kill them.A few weeks ago I went downstairs at about 2.30am only to find a great big spider on the living room wall. I only wanted to go into the kitchen and don't need to go into the living room but I just couldn't move. I also could not go back to bed knowing it was downstairs. So instead I spent the time standing up in the hallway trying to talk myself into killing it (I am bigger than the spider)The kids woke up at 6am and I was still standing in the hallway.Anyway I managed to kill it in the end after lots of screaming and sweating. After reading these post I now realise that I am not alone (a bit crazy) I can't even read these post in the night time. I end up going to bed at 9.30pm because I don't want to be awake when they come out. When do they start going away. I read that they come out in September when do they stop, I can't live like this anymore. I am going out to buy some spray and lavender and clean some more before the night draws in. What a life....Sorry about the long post, it is good therapy....WHY ME....WHY ME......WHY ME.....

Most strong essential oils are good for deterring spiders. I find that geranium works really well. If you put a 10 drops in a spray bottle with water, shake it up and spray round edges of rooms, doors works well. I had a huge spider living under my wardrobe, but I've not see it for at least 6 months since spraying with geranium.

  • Up until earlier this year, I just used to point them out to the dog who liked to play with them, whilst I was standing on the sofa - well out of the way! Then, when the dog had finished with them, they went up the hoover. :rotfl: Unfortunately, the dog is no longer with us, so I have had to go back to how I used to get them - spray them with hairspray and quickly put a big lid/jar/cover over them - leave overnight and hoover up the 'stiff' spiders in the morning - works a treat - I used to live with my gran, and she hated hoovering my room because she had to pick up all the lids off the floor! :rotfl:

I loved my Grandma to bits and she was a farmers wife who had always lived in the country- thatched cottages, barns etc.

When I was a little girl I went and stayed with her and I screamed when I saw a big spider but she ever so gently took me by the hand ,caught the spider in her hand held it near to me and said

"if you want to live and thrive let every spider run alive"

I have never forgotten those words and think of her every time I see a spider. I do however prefer if it OH catches them and puts them outside he doesnt mind them at all.
Try and do a good deed every day.

Does anyone know what those skinny legged spiders with teeny bodies who live in cupboards eat?? We have dozens, at least one per cupboard. I have no clue how to get rid. Their bodies swell when they escape and eat a fly or two but their legs are YEEEEUUUCH and almost invisible. Horrible things. I generally don't mind spiders and like another poster said, prefer them to flies - but these are yacky.

We call them rice crispy spiders in our house - they are horrid BUT they serve a purpose... They are actually dangerously poisonous to other spiders and kill them !!! Its true ! If they fight a massive running floor spider they will always win so I tolerate a small number of these in my house now for preventive purposes :rotfl:
When they get too large or come too close to my territory I suck them up the hoover.

I have lots of spiders coming in now as the weather gets cold and damp :(

The other thing I use is ANT STOP. You spray it round doors/window frames/anywhere they might get in and they pick it up on their feet/bodies and ingest it and it kills them :T :T :T It comes in a red spray plastic bottle and you can get it from B&Q and some other DIY shops in the gardening section :) I use it on skirting boards, doors and windows all round the house.

    Hope that helps :)
  • Ok I am impressed I managed to read this thread although I have been staring at the walls and carpet watching for signs of movement!

I hate them. I always up in tears and being sick. and livingin this house I LOATHE this time of year.

I am going to burn lavender, get conkers and make lavender bags for EVERY WHERE.

and do the geranuim thing for the windows.

Not to everyone's taste but I have seven fantastic pet rats who seems to solve the spider problem in my room at least, I only get spiders if I don't let the gang out to clean house.

If I didn't have my folks constantly removing them I don't think I would have survived my early 20's and I seem to be getting worse as I get older!

    xx

Poor you! I'm not as phobic as you seem to be but I can definitely sympathise having had sleepless nights due to spiders. I think that given the level of your fear you need to have some treatment - either hypnotherapy or desensitising. It may not get rid of your fear but it may help with your worst reactions. Your fear sounds as if its affecting your health.
