Hope you manage to find conkers. There seems to be a serious disease that many of them are suffering from

If you do a search they was another spider thread.
I myself use an electronic ultrasound spider repellent which has definately cut down the amount of spiders ive found.
Think Lavendar was also mentiond.
Good Luck - they are my worst nightmare.0 -

Go with the conkers I cannot stand our 8 legged friends and have conkers discreetly placed in most rooms, it works.

Came to suggest the conkers, but you all know already!
Apparently they are also good for deterring moths in wardrobes....and for piles & rheumatism if you carry them in your pocket!
I like spiders and I live quite happily with them - they eat flies0 -
I am going to recruit my whole family to find me conkers for the conservatory! Thanks everyone0

Our local Wilkinson's and Asda had sold some spider stopping spray. Didn't use it myself because the army seemed in retreat.
But no the little (?! )beggars had only been off on their hols and have brought back the rellies with them!
Help - It's starting to feel like a bl**dy wildlife sanctuary here - quick before someone slaps a conservation order on me!!!:rotfl:"If you realized how powerful your thoughts are, you would never think a negative thought." ~ by Peace Pilgrim.***'You just got Tiffed!'***0 -
i suppose jumping on a chair and being pathetic until OH deals with it isn't a sensible suggestion?!
we get conkers from trees near my house - we don't park under it when they fall all the time incase they damage the car! i'm going to be off on a search for them this weekend - brilliant OS suggestion!!:happyhear0 -
Fay wrote:When we moved into our house the garden was covered in Ivy, literally every square inch of fence had it growing on it. We stripped it back and found a gazillion spiders nests and spiders everywhere! That was a year ago, and although we have alot less spiders now there are still a lot of them. I don't mind so much in the garden but they keep coming into the conservatory and weaving cobwebs everywhere, so much so that at least once a day you walk into a new one.
Has anyone got any good tips to encourage them not to build their homes in mine?!?!?!
Thank you
Fay
Hi Fay - I started a similar thread back earlier this year (March I think) because I have a problem with spiders in my flat.
Basically I have loads of big whopper ones in the Autumn, its quite ridiculous. For some reason I had a batch of them in spring this year which I've never had that time of year before.
Anyway, the guys on this forum came up trumps with loads of ideas. My spiders stopped before I had a chance to try everyone's ideas out but I promised to post back again later this year once i'd tried the ideas and see if anything worked.
To summarise some of the ideas that were posted from my memory (but have a search for the thread anyway)
Seal up holes along skirting boards and walls (I actually saw 2 spiders come out of a tiny gap near the plug socket near the skirting.
Clean, hoover and dust throroughly - especially in corners.
Lavender - spray, candles and the natural stuff - very popular idea.
Conkers/horsechestnut
Mothballs
I have tried the electronic bug repellent thing you plug in the wall, but it made no difference whatsoever!
Umm, that's all I can think of for the moment. But you have my sympathy on the matter, you really do!
Best of luck0 -

He he, my OH does that!.......we have a deal........I get the spiders, he gets the wasps...(they are my phobia...well they sting...and they are not like bees and die...they just get more narked and come back at you:eek: )
OH has been 'brave' on occasion and got the spiders himself (after building up the courage.....quite painful to watch...really wanted to grab the glass off him and get on with it!!)...either that or he finds the insect killer spray stuff which probably kills the ozone as well...and rather than just a squirt...half the can gets emptied...on one tiddler!0 -
Scream like a girl and get the husband to sort it out while you make his dinner - that a really old-style method.0
