MY spider catcher has arrived!!!:j have tried it out with the plastic spider - not a good idea on a laminate floor as when you loose the spider go it appears to run across the floor in a very lifelike manner!

I'm sorry but that made me :rotfl:

I loathe spiders, I can just about get near them to do the cup and cover but I do it shaking and crying!! I can't do cup & cover with huge ones though, I'm afraid they have to be sucked up with the hoover which then has to be left on for a while whilst I pour ant killer down the tube.

My sister is one of those 'aww, it's only a spider' kind of people but show her a worm and say 'aww, it's only a worm' and she'll virtually pass out!!

I'm going to try all the spider repelling advice on this thread so thank you to everyone for their tips, I'll then have to pluck up courage and search for the spider corpses, if there's one thing worse than a live spider, it's a dead spider (well, it is for me anyway) I always think they're going to pounce on me, it's the way their legs curl when dead I think!!

I cant get near enough to them to use a glass and paper etc, am always scared they will escape up my arm! MY OH is quite good at throwing them out but he has been known to lie and say its gone when he cant get them and then they appear again later to scare me to death!
I know what you mean about the dead ones too, I'm frightened that they're faking it and will come to life again when I pick them up in the dust pan:eek:

My OH did this too but the threat of divorce changed his mind. :rotfl:

Also I think he now understands how much it upsets me.

I know a few people who are petrified of moths - they dont bother me at all and worms - no problem.

I used to have huge bulbous spiders drop from my window frames as dusk fell when i lived in a groud floor flat. It meant i could never leave the windows open. They were on the outside but by the time the sun went down it looked like those twinkly curtain lights people have at christmas. About 20 at a time covering my lounge and bedroom window. eeeeeewwwwwwww

Anyway, turns out they were nesting in the air spaces between the bricks so i got a very brave neighbour to spray a whole can of fly killer in the air vents. The amount of babies that came running out made me gag. However most of them died and so did the bigguns. And the ones that didnt were dopey enough to squish once they hit the grass.

I dont live there now but i do feel guilty sometimes when i think about the lady i sold it to.

All I need now is a spider!!! (not!)

How does your spider catcher work? I bought the suction one from Lakeland and it was useless as it wasn't powerful enough. I put it over a spider and turned it on and the spider just sat there! Presumably wondering what the gentle breeze blowing through it's leg hairs was! How does your one work? Where did you get it from?

Update - my ultrasonic spider repellers (1 up stairs and 1 down) have been plugged in since Sun. So far have caught loads of little spiders in my kitchen/utility room where dont normally see any so hopefully they were on their way out - havnt seen any big ones so hopefully they snuck out when we wernt looking.:rotfl:

I think its pyscological (sp) too, now I know they are plugged in then I feel so much better. Havnt seen any flys but that maybe because of the weather. So heres hoping.

The electronic devices definately made me feel better - it is highly offensive when you find a spider sitting on top of it though. They are sneaky little brats and can't be trusted.

However, I still spend every waking hour looking for spiders though, and as a result I think I have more run ins with them than the average person - I am convinced they come looking for me!

The spider catchers are a non starter for me - it involves getting too close to them and as I'm hysterical on the opposite side of the room with my heart trying to leap out of my chest, that isn't happening - but thanks for the ideas about lavendar and chestnuts - every little helps :D

Has anyone tried hypnosis? Its something I have considered but I am so scared of spiders that the idea of not being scared freaks me out. Mad and irrational I know, but thats phobias for you.
