OS Daily for Monday 18th August 2008

Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Monday 18th August 2008.. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well
Hi everyone - hope I don't cross-post with anyone. I'm always nervous of starting the thread because I've made mistakes in the past!
Hope everyone is well. I didn't get much time on yesterday's thread because DH and I just had a morning's gardening and a lazy rest-of-the-day! We both kept dozing off on the sofa - what exciting lives we lead! DS2 and DS2 are both still away with their families so it was a quiet Sunday.
Anyway, Catowen - your time with Shez and in Harrods sounds absolutely brilliant. You did really well with your Harrods card and I'm so glad you treated yourself, too. I loved the photo Shez posted of you both with your lovely children.
(((Hugs))) to Smoky, PenPin, Jayward, AnnieS, Kaat, Chrisca, Candygirl's Dad, Essex-girl's Dad and Beth and her DBs.
Beth, it must be such a rollercoaster of emotions for you with your DBs. I wish them both well.
Well, today I am going to my bank - they keep nagging me to upgrade my account because the one I have is very old and no longer available to newcomers; I don't really want to change it - I only use if for my direct debits and it runs very smoothly. What's the betting that, if I change it, everything gets messed about! Still, they ask me every time I go in there so, if I change it, they'll stop the nagging!
RedRuby - I haven't done anything about my photo on Facebook yet; I'll try and do it today sometime! It took me so long to upload it and I'm not sure I can remember how to do it again!
Stef - you've posted some lovely photos on there. What a gorgeous daughter you have!
Welcome to BigBird!
Sunnyday - here are the two recipes I use for Tea Wine - I haven't made any for ages so I will be digging out my demi-johns and having another go, I think. You've revived my interest!
TEA WINE (1) (two recipes, both good!)
4pts cold tea (no milk; if you use a teapot for your tea, just save the leftovers for a couple of days in a jug)
2lbs granulated sugar
Half pound of raisins
2 lemons
Method:
Cut raisins and slice lemons, put them in a large bowl. Add sugar, pour on cold tea and stir until the sugar is dissolved. Cover the bowl and leave for three to four weeks. Remove scum carefully, strain and bottle. Drinkable straightaway but gets better the longer it is left to ‘age’! Store in a cool dark place. Not sure of the proof of this one but it’s strong and gets stronger!
TEA WINE (2) 13% proof
4pts cold tea
1.25 lbs granulated sugar
2 lemons
Half teaspoon yeast nutrient
1 teaspoon dried yeast
Bring tea to boil in saucepan and add sugar, boil just long enough for the sugar to dissolve. Pour into an earthenware or china jug or jar, add the juice of two lemons and half a teaspoon of yeast nutrient then, when cool, add one teaspoon dried yeast.
Keep it covered in a warm place and, when the first firment is over, stir and pour into a demi-john and fit the trap. Leave for six weeks, rack and bottle.
Anyway, I'm off for a shower. See you all later.

Morning Kathy.
I have waved Mr Twit off on his way to Nottingham, so I'm sat here in bed watching the OlympicsJust finished my first cup of tea, think the kettle nhad better go back on.
Kathy, I've not even attempted to put any pics on Facebook, think I'll get Miss Twit to sort that out for me.
Well, I've some banking to sort out for this morning and I need to pick up some bits and pieces for work. I'm only working 5-7 this evening, although lots of work related stuff to sort out from home.
Freezer surprise for tea again, I will empty the thing.
Catowen, what lovely memories for your children of a shopping spree in Harrods.
Big hugs to those in need.
Love to all The Twit :grouphug:
ps....has anyone watched the cartoon intro to the Olympics, it really reminds me of Monkey, that program that used to be on in the 70's/80's where the characters travelled across China in search of ......(off for a google) Aha, I was right, Monkey, Pigsy, Tripitaka & Sandy.

Morning Mioliere and Whatatwit! Morning everyone to follow
Ugh, had a nightmare where Sainsbury's offered me a job...ugggggghhhhhhhh...never in million years do I want to go back there!!!
Catowen, your spree in Harrods sounded fantastic, it must have been like a dream come true to have that amount of dosh to spend. You did really well to stretch it and get some essentials and some luxuries too. Keep plugging away at the competitions, you never know what you'll get next. BTW I have been meaning to ask you, what do you do about all the tons and tons of spam and other irritating emails that entering competitions generates? They have really put me off from entering any more.
It's "another day, another dollar" today. I'm not getting too comfortable or attached to this job as it's temporary and ultimately I'll be moving on. It'd be so good to find something permanent, local and well paid to settle down into.
Kaat & Annie, it looks like your threads have been deleted following abusive posts. I really do wish the mods would stop moving threads from the pet forum into discussion time as that area seems to attract a lot of trolls, alter egos and people who are just plain rude. Hope you are both OK.
I'm going to hop back into my bed for another hour of comfy bliss. Bye for now.

Another wet one here today
DH and DD are both off this week, and I've got to go to work (boohoo)
Had the IL's round for lunch yesterday, and did roast lamb (it's only the second time I've cooked lamb and it was delicious)
Need to make some sandwiches in a mo for me, and get some mince out of the freezer for tea.
Have a great day everyone

Morning all
Looks like another wet and miserable day here today, and it feels distinctly chilly
Very productive weekend, we managed to sort the conservatory and it is all tidy now ready to move the settee out there - only problem is, the settee weighs a ton, so will need some spinach
Spent last night playing Scrabulous on Facebook with strangers. Think I am playing way out of my league - several of them played the word QI - is that a word
Work today, so chicken breasts in the Remoska for dinner.
Catch you all later xYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -
Morning everyone
Rain again
Woke up early, took a cuppa back to bed but decided to get up and actually do something soooooooWM on, DW emptied, drainingboard cleared, dinner in SC, this won't last you know, there'll be tears before bedtime :rotfl:
As I enjoyed my sewing so much yesterday I am going to do some more today, going to make a cushion cover that I have had cut out for about 2 months, and another handbag organiser, this one will be a bit different though as I want to put it into my large handbag that everything gets lost in, I will sew this one into the bag so that my purse, phone, glasses etc are all round the side then the middle is free for all that [strike]junk[/strike] necessary stuff I need.
DD sent me some lovely photos of DGD yesterday, I can't believe how much shes grown and she was smiling in them, I can't wait to see her next week.
Snowy - I was once on a temp contract at the council, they kept extending it, after a year they made the job permanent, they told me I could apply, when I got the spec I didn't have the qualifications they wanted
Off for abefore I get the sewing machine out. Have a good day

A rather damp good morning to everyone,
Didn't get any ironing done last nightso will have to tackle the overflowing basket tonight as there is work stuff in there as well as things I need to find in order to sort out my wardrobe.
Am having sticky honey lemon chicken & noodles tonight, thanks to a recipe posted by Silvercharming (i think?)....sounded scrummy, and I can have the leftovers for lunch tomorrow
DF awy until at least tomorrow, possibly Wednesdaybut then should be home until after next weekend
Not much else going on - work as usual for me, and was supposed to have been going to pick some wild blackberries with a friend tonight but as its a bit on the damp side, I think we'll make the decision this afternoon......
Love to all, and :grouphug: for those in need

Raining here..............again:cool:
Did some shopping at the weekend, went to costco in Thurrock and stocked up on washing powder and various items to last me a while.
Fed up with this weather now, I think we have had out lot for 'summer' I have only used the BBQ once this year:eek: not very MS seeing as it cost a fortune last year:o
Need to do some paperwork this morning before leaving home, OH has hospital appointment later this afternoon as he had a mini stroke 2 weeks ago so I am keeping my fingers crossed that there is no blockage when he has his scan later.
have a good Monday all x0 -
Morning everyone!
Only had one day off yesterday and spent that at my Mam's house for my Brother's 30th. It was nice to see all the family but tiring at the same time, my nephew is almost 5 and has more energy that any child I've ever met! Then the cats had me awake at 5am howling outside then realising they can jump through the upstairs window, first landing on me in bed then startling the dog - I think he thought we had burgling cats!
Back at work for 5 days then a long weekend for bank holiday (it's the only time I appreciate working for a bank!). OH is taking me and the dog out on Saturday so hoping the weather picks up as it's been raining and dull for well over a week now. We must be due our summer soon :rotfl: Then we have a BBQ at our friends house Sunday so at least there's some things to look forward to to get through the week!
Anyhoo best be off, have to set off for work in 30 minutes and have to drag OH out of bed - he's really not a morning person! Will be back on this evening to catch up.
Hugs where needed and hope everyone has a nice daySmall business owner 🧵 Ex MSE comper 🏆 Student loan repayer 💴 Romanian dog rescuer 🐕 Hopefully a cost of living survivor 🤞🏻0
