Hello Strumpet - I am still here although I wasnt here over the weekend because I went away and got blown around in my tiny tent (not helped by my chap having a bad dose of the farts:eek: - don't know what was worse, him or the weather).

Don't stress about overspending - somehow I managed to drop past my overdraft limit:mad:  so I ended up clearing out my £2 jar and depositing £70 in my bank plus two HB cheques and my JSA went in today - so am a little less skint but will be back to square one on 5 September when my rent goes out. Blame this new business of mine - can't get funding so have to fund it myself and do everything else plus course work - am starting to wonder why I bother.

I also have a diary but I don't offer biccies to people because they would eat you out of house and home if they could. Just noticed that you have booked yourself in at the dentist - well done old chap. I would hold your hand but I am down here and you're up there.

Grocery spends are easy dealt with - make a list and stick to it. Clothes is also easy - stop buying them, you have enough already and if you mix and match it makes you look as though your wardrobe is huge when really it isnt. Entertainment - now that's a bit sticky, read a book, watch the telly or join the local library and borrow DVDs from there. Stop buying presents too - get them for free off the freebies board LOL

As for George Foreman - apparently they are great and my mate who has one swears by it - in fact he has never switched his oven on as he uses his George Foreman all the time.

Hope you have a fab weekend in Lundy - the weather should be good but take a brollie just in case. Oh and if you want to avoid the Lundy Trotskis take a pack of Immodium with you.
  • Hi Everyone - I'm back!

Well I had a super time on Lundy Island although the weather on Monday was atrocious! Horizontal rain and a force 10 gale! OH and I were very snug in our little castle, with our candles and wood stove burning away. Snuggled up on the armchairs, wrapped in blankets with a good book! We thought that there might be a possibility that we wouldn't get back as the boat was not going to sail on Tuesday due to the weather! OH had to get back to the mainland as he had commitments on the Wednesday so it was rather worrying for a while! Fortunately, it did sail but I wish it hadn't because everyone was very ill - the baot pitched and tossed and I thought I was going to have to do a Shelley Winters type thing. All I could think of was Poseidon Adventure! It was very scary. The tide was racing in, the wind was howling and the sea was described as moderate but I thin it was rough really. Anyway, we made it, so that's the main thing!

Now the lodger has left, the money saving can REALLY begin - I have a fighting chance of keeping my spending under control if lodger is not buying food we don't need all the time!

More on that later! Off for a 2 hour meeting now. Looking forward to a massive lamb casserole when I get in tonight, sorting out my finances and playing free bingo on Gala. Champion!

    Love Strumpet

Looking forward to hearing about your cost cutting plans. I'm probably being a bit dense here, but why are you paying for your lodger's food?

We had an agreement that we would split the food 50/50 to make life easier. I'm probably being too harsh on him as there were things I bought that he didn't eat too.
Like vegetables!:rotfl:The point I was trying to make was that if there's only me buying what I think I need, I'm 100% in control, whereas before it was only 50%. I have ALL the power to say no to some items that I feel I can't afford.

Unfortunately, when he left, he forgot to take the Flake Ice Cream with him.

My budget this month is being blown out of the water, and it is really down to feeding DS2 (beer) and DD (salad stuff  ) all day and everyday. I'll almost be glad when they go off to university. :o

There's a recipe for Jaffa cakes on Hypnos thread, I'm just wondering if that would be cheaper than Lidls?

Glad you had a restful break, and   to the ferry crossing.

Making them yourself would preserve an NSD (if you're having one today!).

    Welcome Home Strumpet.

I did think about you during the week because there was a chap who managed to get himself into the news and I wondered at first if it was you but it wasnt this chap was older. He had been fishing off Lundy and caught a shark which he then picked up to get the hook out and it promptly bit him on the wrist:rotfl:

I empathise with the boat trip, I hate being seasick although I counteract it or help it along by eating lots. When I went sailing to Cherbourg on a boat with sails:eek: I was extremely ill so I sat on deck and ate everything that was given to me from jam sandwiches to mugs of soup and plates of cake. My OH (bless him) had chosen starvation as an option which didnt help in the slightest and made him worse. I was told by someone that if you are going to get seasick then you have to have something to chuck:eek:

Next time you go on hols Strumpet - go to the Scilly Isles instead or even to Jersey as you can fly to both places and they are still within the UK:D

    Hey Horace, my old chum!
Yes! We saw the HM Coastguard helicopter flying over to pick the man up and take him back to the Mainland. It was very stormy so it can't have been easy for them to rescue him. Should have held the blunt end!!!:rotfl:
