Now then you lot - you all seem to need to be taken in hand....
Mrs P: Come on now, you can't let the diet slide cos you've been doing so well! If you ARE finding it difficult though, why not allow yourself a reward day once a week. One of the problems with diets is that they change your mental attitude to one of being deprived and this only heightens your desire to binge.
When I looked at doing "Body for Life", which is a 12-week program of gym, aerobic exercise and healthy eating, Bill Phillips, the guy who came up with it, suggested that you should only watch what you eat and do exercise for 6 days then have a reward day on the 7th day. Even God rested!!!! This way, you can look forward to the things you like to eat and reserve them all for the 7th day. You should not feel guilty about this - it is part of the scheme. You will find you can stave off the desire for a cake or whatever, because you know you can have one on the 7th day. Over time, you don't actually binge on the 7th day like you think your going to. It's unlikely that you'll eat everything you were "saving" for the 7th day.
Say you always eat a Mars Bar with lunch every day - that's 7 Mars Bars a week. If you go on a diet, you still want a Mars Bar, proabaly even more so. If you wait for your reward day, even if you eat 2 Mars Bars, (it's unlikely you'll eat 7!!!), you still saved 5 Mars Bars that week. You should concentrate on what you don't eat, not on what you do eat. Losing weight is a state of mind. You need to reward yourself for doing well.
If it's any consolation, I'm with you every step of the way - I'm trying to change my body image from sedentary, podgy, belly flab to svelt, hunky healthy gay man. But I've built a reward day into my programme, so that I know I'm only ever a maximum of 6 days away from something I want. Then it becomes a game to see if I can last out.
Keep posting though - we'll help you stay on the wagon and we can swap tips for getting through the cravings.

Hi folks
Strumpet:- I have to agree, that is a really good idea. I use to do the same in work and have a bacon or sausage bun nearly everyday. Now I try to have one just on a friday as a treat.:T It is about cutting back slowly not all at once. Having a treat day is a good way to do this. So do you have any badminton clubs near you? It is good fun, and you meet people and keep fit, bargain.
MrsPorridge:- Just backing up Strumpet. Don't give up. I always use to give up and yo yo around. I am doing a charity weight club in work. You get weighed every week and it costs £1. If you put weight on it costs £2. It all goes to charity, but where money is concerned, it focuses the mind.
If you dont like going to the gym, how about an exercise bike at home or take up swimming or badminton, or something else. I play badminton it is great. Exercise does not have to be a chore. God I sound like a preacher.

Strumpet - thank you so much for your kind words - it helps so much to know that someone else understands. I like the idea of the 7th day. I have decided to use Sunday as my 7th day because I always weigh myself Sunday morning first thing. I can then have treats that day and begin again on the Monday when I'm back at work.
I've done well so far today. If I am tempted tonight then I will just think about having it on Sunday instead and plan for it and look forward to it. I'll let you know how I get on!Debt free and Keeping on Track0 -
That's the spirit Mrs P: You 'll probably find once you get to Sunday that you don't want it. MoneyFritter is right, cut stuff out slowly then you hardly notice you're doing it. Sometimes, now,I think I want chocolate, go out and buy it, open the bar and then think "yeughh" don't really want this after all.
what I really need to do is get to the "Yeughh" stage before I've spent the money! LOLNIL ILLEGITIMUS CARBORUNDUM!Nov Grocery Challenge: £0.00 / £150.00

PS
Sunday is my 7th day too - then I can have Bacon Sandwiches in bed with a nice pot of coffee whilst listening to the Archers.
Unfortunately, now OH has left, I have to do it on my own!NIL ILLEGITIMUS CARBORUNDUM!Nov Grocery Challenge: £0.00 / £150.00

Aah.but you're not on your own Calvin is there - at least he won't shout if you leave crumbs in the bed:eek:
When you were talking about podgy belly, I thought you were talking about meI have given up on my diet (not that I was ever properly on one) but I keep having cravings for Reeses Nutrageous bars (I guess its the nuts that I am after). I am doing quite well in other areas chicken salad for dinner last night and spam salad for lunch today...yes, I am still eating the chicken:rolleyes:
I am getting plenty of exercise on Saturday as I shall be washing cars all day at a charity car wash:D
Best carry on with my work..ttfn xx0 -
MF - thanks for your support as well. I've been trying to lose a couple of stone for about 5 years now. This time I am determined to do it.
The good news is I have managed to stick to the diet today. I have enough points left for a WW lemon cheesecake which is defrosting as we speak. That will be my treat tonight.
I have already planned Sunday's (my 7th day) breakfast, toast and butter! My weakness.
I'm not very good on the exercise front though (I need to spend some time with you Horace) - I have got a Wii Fit and Wii Fit coach which I was using but have now stopped. DH and I have started to do geocaching though - which is using a GPS to find hidden goodies. Its great fun and involves lots of walking and we are lucky enough to be living about 10 minutes walk from some south west coastal path so no excuse really. The geocaching gives a reason for the walk which really keeps me motivated.Debt free and Keeping on Track0 -
I almost forgot - I managed my second NSD of the month too.:j:jDebt free and Keeping on Track0

Well done MrsP on your NSD - I nearly had one today but I needed some stuff from the corner shop. I won't be able to have one tomorrow either as I have a huge spend - MOT and car service and I swear my car needs 2 front tyres as well:rolleyes:..but I do get £10 off my MOT:cool: Saturday I am carwashing for charity again - and I get the chance to chat to an interesting chap I met last weekend:D
I will be getting plenty of exercise soon as I need to have a mass clearout ready for a new filing cabinet and a new office chair. I have found a charitable organisation called GreenWorks who recycle office furniture - they have a branch near me and I have persuaded them to deliver up a flight of stairs which is normally a huge no no. So I am getting a 4 drawer office filing cabinet for £40 plus VAT and nice office chair for £20 + VAT and delivery from Wolverhampton for £30:cool: at least I have budgeted for it and can claim it as a business expense. I am beginning to love business expenses but keep wondering if there is a catch:rolleyes:0 -
Sadly I have found out after many years of experience that there is always a catch.:rotfl:Debt free and Keeping on Track0
