Aha, DH took a call from M&S for me yesterday who said they would ring back later but never did. Had been racking my brain about why they were phoning me, thought it was my local store.

So will they send the paperwork without speaking to me I wonder? I've just started a new job, so not around much on the home number that I'd given.

They've never phoned again and I've not heard anything, so assuming I'm not going to get anything now.

Actually that's wrong. I emailed them to ask where my papers were (should've asked here first so I'd known they were slow); several days later they phoned and I just said its fine 'got them'.

I've not ried any big cashback's before done some little ones . I have had a phone call and recieved my pack.But on Quidco nothing is showing on it . Will it only show when I send my pack back? Because I haven't sent it back yet.

Had a letter off M&S asking me to call them.

Called them today, spoke to a girl that said "due to a suspiciously high volume of applications in response to the £100 internet cashback offer, we're having to process each application manually over the telephone."

(Why on earth is the volume of applications suspicious? It's a marketing campaign specifically designed to increase sales by offering an extremely generous incentive. Surely the high response is exactly the desired effect!!! Are these people thick or something?)

She then said it would take 30 minutes to do the application again from scratch over the phone :eek:

Immediately my alarm bells started ringing because I know that cashback sites will only pay out when transactions are completed wholly online. That's the whole point of internet marketing.

I told her this concern and she said "the cashback is nothing to do with us so I can't comment on that. We're not offering you £100. You need to speak to the cashback site if you want the £100". "Nothing to do with M&S at all?", I asked. "No, nothing to do with M&S". "So the £100 isn't coming out of M&S's pocket?" "No, definitely not".



"Who's picking up the tab for the cashback then?" I asked. "I don't know but M&S definitely aren't paying it," she said. "M&S didn't consent to the offer and didn't even know anything about it until we noticed a massive surge in applications. We then made sure the offer was removed from all cashback websites immediately."

So apparently the £100 was coming out of the pocket of the man on the moon. Or she didn't have a clue what she was talking about.

She then put me through to her manager who basically confirmed everything she'd said.

He said M&S had never agreed to offer £100 cashback and were in no way connected with the offer. He kept saying I'd need to speak to the cashback site if I wanted the £100. I kept telling him that the T+Cs say they won't pay cashback if the application is done over the phone.

We kept going round in circles and it reached stalemate so I told him to cancel my application.

Once again M&S's internet marketing has created a farcical shambles.

Its the marketing department that do the cashback, sales often dont even know about cashback sites, now you got me thinking as they asked me on the phone about my application will it void the cashback, could it be a sneeky way not to pay out

Well in this case the sales/admin side definitely knew about the cashback but were virtually suggesting they never gave CBK authorisation for this offer (which I'm sure is NOT the case - this was simply an Enron-style situation within M&S whereby one department was trying to bolster the balance sheet without first discussing their crazy idea with other departments - and now they've realised their mistake they're covering their asses by trying to blame CBK).

It's simply not worth the risk and that's why I cancelled. You wouldn't have a leg to stand on if CBK refused to pay out because it had been completed by phone.
